When I was a teenager, somebody gave me a nose flute (like the one in the photo above) as a gag gift. It was funny and ridiculous. But then I tried it and figured out how it worked. And I practiced. And I got pretty dang good at it. I could play pretty much any song I could think of. This is the only instrument I've ever known how to play successfully, and it was fun. But then about a year later, I lost it. And I've never been able to bring myself to order a new one with a straight face and admit to anyone that I actually consider it worthy of playing music on.
Going through my photos of my first Baha’i trip to Malaysia. Here I am in an Orang Asli village playing a traditional nose flute. Definitely one of the best times of my life. I had always wanted to travel and see the world and I actually did it, I made it happen.
Nose flute is a musical instrument of Polynesia, some parts of Africa, New Zealand, and Philippines. It is played from the nostrils.
