headcanon: born noseblind

people who are born nose blind (NSBL) are considered disabled by a/b/o societies. why?

1. cannot discern people's dynamics easily. If they live in a strict a/b/o society, they must tread very carefully when meeting new people and constantly be focused on observing how people interact with each other. If not done properly, at best it's a minor public embarrassment at worst it's a serious form of disrespect with major punishments.

2. cannot understand emotions and emotional changes. In a world where people are used to just sensing other people's emotional states and don't need to convey them physically/out loud all of the time, this would majorly hinder socialization and forming relationships.

3. cannot sense other people's pre-heats/ruts. can be personally damaging if they are a dynamic that is influenced by other people's fertility cycles. (ex: an NSBL alpha going into a reactive heat in the middle of a large social gathering and having to quickly exits before their emotions/hormones get the best of them)

4. not aware of their own scent. NSBLs could easily find themselves in sticky situations if they don't consider that although they can't smell it, they do have a scent* Could lead to hijinks such as being scented by other people and getting their pack confused, walking around in pre-heat/rut and triggering other dynamics, etc..

*Some people are also born without scent glands, but that's a different condition.

Am I the only one who goes smell blind in here? I usually only buy stuff during the semi annual sale but I only really notice the first couple. Then my nose gets overwhelmed but there is still more on sale. So I have to blindly trust that sultry summer dreams or sparkle sunset memories is gonna be good because they have a ferris wheel at night with fireworks going off on the label.
