a look back at 2025 for real-time fandub
Hi y'all! I wanted to take a little stop just before we end the year.
this was a busy fuckin' year for RTF!
There were 35 fandubs released from both Penny and Charlotte in total. This includes:
24 fandubs of Dungeon Meshi,
1 fandub of OUR DRAWINGS - PRINCESS MOVIE | Full Animation Film | Artist,
1 practice fandub of commercials to precede one of the DunMeshi dubs,
1 fandub of Gravity Falls,
1 practice fandub of the 1986 Super Mario Bros. anime movie,
5 fandubs of the first Kingdom Hearts game, and
1 practice fandub of Ratchet & Clank.
This also includes one original song for the Kingdom Hearts dubs (in two variants) and one cover for the Our Drawings dub.
Of these 35 fandubs, I have posted over 150 clips on Tumblr and Bluesky! RTF Out of Context also ended its official run on Twitter in January of this year, in protest to Elon Musk's enshittification of the site. On Bluesky, the profile has reached 859 followers at time of writing, and on Tumblr 1966 followers at time of writing! While I've yet to regain the 5289 followers from Twitter, this will suffice. :)
I'll be going over the individual fandub events here:
Dungeon Meshi (Delicious in Dungeon)
Dungeon Meshi (alt title: Delicious in Real-Time, or DIRT for short) marks RTF's second full-scale series fandub (the first being Over the Garden Wall, but not all of that survived so this might as well be the first). It was chock full of funny bits about food, lesbians, fecal matter, oil and other fluids. We followed a bunch of "culinary perverts" for a whole 6 months, as they introduced us to Laios's shitty band, Stab the Pony; made the show more autism than it's normally supposed to be, which was previously thought to be impossible; and taught us that brick tastes good. We were also shown the wonders of Senshi voiced by ShelbeanieVO (or "Shelbshi", as it's informally called).
"Frogs are already gay." - Senshi
It brought on new talent, with the likes of jan Misali (Mitch), YourMuseKay, Mathee, Riley (commandrogyne), Lunar Twilight, and BaileyFeesh entering the roster. Misali and Bailey specifically shook up the show quite a bit. Bailey played Kabru—the Dungeon's biggest Talking Heads fan, coupled with mysillycomics playing his partner Rin. Mitch played Shuro, the samurai who is ever so confused about his friendship with Laios.
Old talent got front-facing roles, like Adam the Spittleman upgrading from theme songs (Return of Jafar, A Series of Unfortunate Events) to his RTF voice acting debut as Laios, and Kisa Niya (@tomatomagica) making her grand return as Falin (since her last appearance in the now-lost Ace Attorney dubs). Sara (@weirdmageddon) returns for her first time since the ASOUE fandubs! er12eu (previously seen in Pirates of the Caribbean) comes back as the Mad Mage, appropriately grounding the tone of the show while keeping it silly with the dialogue. Millie the Sillie makes her return to RTF since coming out as trans, under the role of King Delgal.
In the meanwhile, Charley also had her own coming out and became Charlotte Driftwood: @PirateDragQueen! Blossoming into the British non-binary swashbuckling lesbian she was always meant to be, while playing one of the lead roles as Marcille. RTF, and every ongoing project, also moved to a brand new channel (where these dubs are being uploaded every Friday)! This leads us to the first big fandub under the new name "Charlotte Driftwood", which was...
OUR DRAWINGS - PRINCESS MOVIE | Full Animation Film | Artist
I'm gonna type the full name wherever I can, yes. (Alternate title: OUR FANDUB - REAL-TIME MOVIE | Full Improvisation Dub | Jokes)
Courtesy of long-time RTF fan and devoted RTF Out of Context follower jan Misali (@hbmmaster), the cast of Dungeon Meshi was essentially coerced into dubbing the Calobi Productions "masterpiece", Our Drawings. The official story is: between fandubs of Dungeon Meshi, Mitch prepped a fandub-ready cut of the movie without telling anyone, and showed it to the cast. Everyone decided they were on board, and as a result, we have a Real-Time Fandub version of the beatboxing puppy now. The good part? The beatboxing puppy is autotuned.
Ray (@sapphosheiir) plays the titular "Princess Movie" character, Paige Foster. Also Mitch plays her. Also Millie plays her. There are too many narrators, one of which is just Charlotte as herself? Good job, movie!
Shelby plays Calobi, the ice cream sandwich headed mascot of Paige's coma art world, who repopulated the Moon somehow. As is tradition, Real-Time Fandub keeps doing weird-ass things to the Moon all the time, like being fascist or pissing on it (not gonna explain that first one, just look up "Say Uncle Real-Time Fandub")
Author of "Clumpty Dump" and other "Weird Noises", IMLXH (Alex), joined in to provide live music for the dub. It's exactly as good as you probably think it is. It's glorious. He also came in for a full cover of the ending theme "Drawing Board" when the full episode was posted to YouTube, featuring Charlotte and Mitch on vocals.
"This is what I do when I'm stressed." - Puzzle (Lunar Twilight), as he toots a horn
In the end, the fandub was a beautiful mess of an homage to the original flick, inheriting its otherworldliness by having every single character either be paint or be drinking paint in order to be in Paige's world. Hunter, played by Adam the Laios, also comes up with the bright idea to cancel out the paint with paint thinner!
Kingdom Hearts
Kingdom Hearts (alt title: SnapCube's Real-Time Fandub: Do No Harm) is the most anticipated fandub in Real-Time Fandub history. Teased in 2019 under the codename "Dodon Pa Fanfiction", the fandub that united two fanbases—Radio TV Solutions and SnapCube—and transcended the coming outs of both Scout and Jenny arrived in October 2025. The main character, Joe Pera Sora tries to learn how to become a surgeon of the Heart in Donald Duck's Kingdom of Donald Dicks. Get it? Kingdom? Hearts? It's jokes. Holly Hollowtones's vocal delivery gimmick adds an interesting charm to Sora, keeping him ambiguously aged while sounding like a soothing grandpa. (he should be on Midnight Snap.)
While distributing brand new Soriku fan fiction to viewers who may or may not have experienced the first game in 2025, Sora meets Goofy and the newly contingently crowned King Donald Duck (Wayne) from Disney. Mickey's gone, and so Donald is reigning monarch. This doesn't stop any of them from being silly as hell, and it most certainly doesn't stop Goofy (played by Penny) from going on a few aggressive fits. They meet the rest of Disney along the way, even characters classic RTF fans have met before. (remember when I mentioned The Return of Jafar? Jenny remembers.)
Dollip Daze contributes with text box captions which show the dialogue on screen like in the real game. This has led to a multitude of memes taking Sora and others out of context using what look like real, bonafide Kingdom Hearts screenshots.
Do No Harm is SnapCube's longest and most high-profile fandub yet, recorded over two separate Discord calls and multiple cutscene filming sessions. It had been long enough that Penny had to step in my shoes for once and actually delete a deadname from her show (it was Jenny's, as she had come out the month episode 3 was recorded)! Much like that surprise, the fandub comes with multiple surprises, like the multiple Disney medical princesses, Sora Doing Harm to Other Characters, Tarzan (Logmore) and the Poetry for Neanderthals rule, the Beast (Scorpy) that took a shit so loud that it resonated around the planet, Sleepy Aerith, whatever the hell is going on with Maleficent, Pope Tigger (did I mention that Pope Leo XIV was admitted between the recordings? it made for a very funny continuity joke), and others.
The fandub also came with the legendary reveal of an original song-that's-actually-a-theme-song-spoof, "Do No Harm" by Jamie Paige and Marcy Nabors of "Machine Love" and Deltarune fame, respectively! The general public found out that Jamie and Penny had been friends since like 2018, and have been teaching Penny piano in secret, while the song was being developed to sound as little and as much like Hikaru Utada's "Simple and Clean" as possible.
All of this happened while trying to treat Kingdom Hearts—a game that's often made fun of for being complicated—as earnestly as possible. This resulted in some actually deep character chemistry, especially with Riku and any other character, because Dollip just does that good of a job carrying this show. SophieBaybey as Kairi also pulls some strings as the main catalyst of the events in the fandubs. If you know, you know. If you don't, go watch!
all the other dubs: Gravity Falls, Ratchet & Clank, Mario and commercials
Gravity Falls - The Golf War: Alternatively titled "The Lesbian Episode of Gravity Falls", which really should've been the "Sapphic" episode since Mabel discovers her bisexuality (again) and not her lesbianism towards Pacifica. We also learn that Grunkle Stan is bisexual. Good for him! As part of the golf episode, the living golf balls are found to be very big Chappell Roan fans, and they're vouching for a sequel to Ratatouille. Some Jerk with a Camera called Tony Goldmark debuts on the show as part of the roster, playing Franz "Blueballs".
Ratchet & Clank: Alternatively titled "Ratchet & Son", for reasons that will become obvious soon, this BTDubs installment is the introduction of famed internet legend Wayneradiotv into the roster. Wayne plays Clank, Ratchet's newborn son, recently landed from Maroon 5. Jenny plays Every Character. All of them. And also Adam Levine. It devolves into chaos. They bomb Luxembourg, and they store TVs inside Clank, Teletubbies style. I can't do it justice by describing it.
Super Mario and the commercials: I can't personally say much about the practice fandubs that preceded the Dungeon Meshi dubs—I still need to watch them in full lol—but they were jan Misali's first appearance on YouTube and Patreon, respectively. Lunar Twilight launches into this series with the commercials practice dub as well.
other things that happened!
Joy successfully foretold Jet the Hawk in a Sonic racing game in "Sonic Riders"! Only a month before that dub's fifth anniversary, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds was announced with Jet the Hawk, Storm the Albatross, and HATSUNE MIKU??!?
The Sonic Movie is in on the "Eggman pissing on the Moon" joke on Twitter. The third Sonic the Hedgehog movie, which had come out on December 23, 2024, was still on the hype for a digital release. The movie's Twitter account preceded that announcement with an allusion to the SnapCube fandubs, and Lee Majdoub confirmed with another add-on that yes, this is an undeniable allusion. Unlike all the other things that people claimed were references to the dubs in the movie.
We're still on a stretch goal for a fandub of all of Gravity Falls! The show that started it all still has 8 episodes left to dub, and all of the shorts minus Dipper's Guide. If the viewers put Charlotte at $320/month on Patreon, Gravity Falls fandubs will be completed.
Real-Time Fandub has had a wonderful year of challenges and successes. It's made us laugh, cry, question our trust in the showrunners when they are teasing us with fandub quotes in plain sight, all of that jazz. It remains a big part of my life, and I'm glad to share that with y'all. This show is special to me, and I hope to keep enjoying it in the future. Especially as its original incarnation hits its 10th official anniversary.
I'll leave you for the year with a parting quote from Charlotte Driftwood, the creator of Real-Time Fandub, from the penultimate DunMeshi/Our Drawings stream:
"Art should be fun. That was my goal in creating the Real-Time Fandub format 10 years ago. If you've heard of Real-Time Fandub before this, that's because DIY Jackbox is a good thing to exist in this world and everyone should play."
- Charlotte Driftwood
Thank you for watching, and happy new year 2026.
