20. On a scar

They were lying their head on Sarandiel's lap, messing with their own hair, thinking, while Sarandiel was reading.

— Saran. — They called them.

— Yes? — They answered, looking at Arkak now.

— Uhm...How did you get your scar? — Arkak seemed strangely guilty, stopping playing with their hair for a second.

They paused for a moment, thoughtful.

— Well... That was a long time ago. I don't remember exactly when, but it was during the war, one of the demons did this. — They started, while Arkak was looking away, apprehensive. — And...well, i got a sword thrown in my face

They laughed, not noticing that Arkak was uncomfortable now.

— It hurt a lot, obviously, but it wasn't the most painful thing i ever went through. — Sarandiel closed the book now, laying their hand on Arkak's head. — It happened, we were at war, things happen. And at least i only got the scar, i didn't lose much of my vision on this eye. If it was a flaming sword things might have been a lot worse.

They then looked at Arkak, their smile vanishing when they saw their expression.

— What happened?... Is everything ok? — They asked, starting to get worried, seeing Arkak hesitate at these questions.

— ... I...uhm... would you...be mad at me if I told you that...I did this? — Their nervousness wasn't getting any better with Sarandiel quiet, looking at them with a surprised expression, eyes wide open. — I-I swear i didn't mean to do it, i just panicked and didn't know what to do and I'm so sorry i didn't want to hurt anyone but i was afraid and didn't know if you would hurt me and-

Arkak stopped the quick and messy explanation when Sarandiel took their hand, looking away from their face, unsure.

— ...I, uh... — They started, carefully thinking about their wording, then letting out a sigh, slightly squeezing Arkak's hand. — It's okay.

— ...What?

— I-I'm not mad at you. — They still were surprised by the reveal, but wanted to make sure Arkak was okay. — It...It happened.

— But i hurt you...

— Well... you said it yourself, you didn't mean to it, it was an accident... — They squeezed Arkak's hand again, who didn't answer this time. — I believe you.

Arkak finally looked at them again, unsure, conflicted.

— But it doesn't fix what I've done to you.

— ... Yes, it doesn't, but it's a scar, it's already there, there really isn't nothing that could be done. — They answered, looking Arkak keep thinking about it, still holding their hand.

— ... I'm sorry for it. Again.

— It's okay — Sarandiel insisted, giving a soft kiss to Arkak's hand, wanting to comfort them. — It's actually kinda ironic we met again and... ended up here, don't you think?

— Maybe...— They let out a shy smile, thinking about it. They then lifted themselves up a little, kissing Sarandiel's cheek, on the scarred side. — Either way... Thank you.

They smiled lovingly to Arkak.

— You're welcome.
