I just feel like the term Third World Country creates so many negative stereotypes that people probably are not even aware of. I understand that it supposedly just refers to how wealthy a nation is, but in reality what it does is make yet another separate between people. It creates a subconscious (or maybe not subconsciouse for some people) connotation that people from these countries are some how less that people from the “first world countries”, that they are dumber, less important, less cultured/civilized, fill in the blank. I just don’t like the picture it paints and the idea it plants in peoples heads. I think as humans we need to stop making these arbitrary boundaries between each other and stop categorizing people based on how rich their country is. People from all countries have value and are brilliant human beings.
I just think that something as simple as a term like Third World Country, can help create/solidify so many mindsets about people that you have never met. These prejudices can stick with people, even when they don’t intend it to, and this changes how we interact with others. So yeah, that’s my mini rant on why I don’t like that term.
