This isn’t something I would normally discuss but this is my state and things have gotten bad and national news is hardly covering it. Today most public schools have shut down and even some state offices, such as my towns DMV. In high school I used 20+ year old textbooks that were falling apart. You were lucky to find a chair that wasn’t broken or a class with fewer than 25 students and I live in a small town. Over 50% of the “teachers” at my high school weren’t even certified teachers. Meaning they don’t have a degree in education or even a degree at all but are still in a classroom. This walk out is continuing until lawmakers pass a funding bill. So this could last for months. Right now teachers here make around 25k a year. This is nothing to live on. Thankfully since this was planned far in advance there’s shelters and other places open to feed and watch kids but this is still a major state wide crisis. I just wanted to at least bring some awareness about this. My state is crumbling apart. Literally. I heard something similar is happening in Kentucky but I do not know their circumstances. Update: just read Facebook from my old teachers who went to the state capital to rally and the house reps met for only 10 minutes before they called it for the day and only 2 that I know of would hold personal meetings with teachers. Elections need to hurry up
