Wish you’d fuck off
Hey there. I'm trying to sort out why Killian was able to break through the darkness when Emma was threatened by Nimue even though he spent the episode threatening her and her family. What was different about that moment? Was it because someone else was doing the threatening? Does the curse make him unable to realise sending her to the UW was also her end? You can post this publicly if you like or not. Thanks so much.
I’m gonna post it publicly in case anyone else wants to weigh in in reblogs, but my understanding is that this was the proverbial ledge for Killian. Much like at the end of season 2, actually. He spent ages trying to get his revenge, and then, when it was within his grasp, he realised that it wasn’t worth his life, and that he’d have nothing left to live for. And I think it was much the same here. He was consumed with rage and thirst for vengeance, and it all came to a head - and then, in that last moment, he relented.
Emma wasn’t going to the UW, she wasn’t marked. Everyone else was, but not her. Killian didn’t want her dead.
It’s not that it was different from what he was doing before, really. The fact that Nimue did the threatening might’ve helped, in that it might’ve given him a little mental distance which he needed in order to see and really get what was going to happen. But I think it was really a matter of, he was in the grip of darkness, he was focused on vengeance, and as long as he was just working towards it all was well. Because while you’re working towards something, you can focus on your next move, you don’t need to face the consequences of your ultimate goal yet. But once he got to the point where it was going to happen, where Emma would lose her whole family and he would lose her and everything... that’s when it got real. And I think there’s always still that analytical part of him somewhere in the back pointing that out and, ultimately, making him draw back.
That’s just my interpretation of it. I just see Killian as someone who sometimes really needs to be pushed to the very edge, to where he really has to confront the reality of what he’s about to do, before he’ll realise what he really, truly, wants most. In my experience there’s a sort of clarity, when you reach that point. You’re out of excuses and you can’t hide anymore and you have to decide and face the consequences. And that’s when you find out what you’re made of, and what you want.
I live for your url changes, tbh.
Haha thanks!
I love what you said about taking care of yourself after the finale and all the ways to avoid drama. The one thing I really wanted after the last episode was a safe place to vent my feelings, where I wouldn't have people rolling their eyes or yelling at me for being nervous. No judgments basically, which was hard to come by. We should compile a list of willing listening/fellow venters for the upcoming finale and hiatus. I volunteer for tribute if anyone wants that option. :)
That’s a lovely idea! I think it is important to have someone to listen, if that’s something you need. If people want to volunteer for that, that’s amazing. :)
I’ll publish this just so people know, and I’ll add a few more pointers re: venting as well, just things that have worked for me.
First of all, everyone has the right to say what they want on their blog. Just use common sense, don’t tag negative opinions with the ship/character tag, etc. For best results, avoid using any fandom tags in your first 5 tags, and THEN put anti-whatever if it’s anti-whatever. That way, your post won’t show up in the tags, but people can still blacklist.
Maybe put a disclaimer: “I just need to vent, please don’t reblog this to start an argument”? That’s easy enough and that way, if anyone DOES reblog to start an argument, they’ll look like the jerk, not you.
Don’t send angry/nervous messages to people who don’t take well to it; if you follow them, chances are you’ve seen them respond to message before so you can judge based on that, or they might even have a FAQ or something. Some people are happy to listen, others don’t appreciate that kind of thing. If you’re not sure, you can always ask beforehand!
And for the love of everything... IF you see a post somewhere that you disagree with, it’s not the end of the world. Ask yourself, do you really need to argue or judge? Or can you maybe just accept that someone else has a different opinion, and let it go? It’s possible. It takes some practice, sometimes, but it’s absolutely possible. You don’t HAVE to judge everything and everyone you see. I personally find it exhausting. I’m much happier when I don’t.
Thanks so much for this message, I hope we can all come together as a fandom and respect each other and get through the finale and the hiatus together. <3
Are people really complaining that new Thomas fans are about??? I am not new but I just started a new blog so I look new so maybe i'm one being complained about. Plus, I imagine lurkers got upset enough to finally join in. I'm some of that too. Lol but either way I am always very excited to see new fans about. We are a tiny fandom , or it always seems so anyway. Anywho, love your metas and such and just wanted to say hi and please keep on!!
Thank you!! And yeah, someone who liked Thomas Barrow ~before it was cool was royally pissed about new posters appearing. I wouldn’t have thought you could be a hipster and like Downton Abbey, but apparently…
Stopping time
Do you ever have the feeling that 365 days go by but the year stays that same
I don't think they understand how much it hurts that I am never good enough for them to even notice I exist...
