(Wow, I didn’t know he even had my number anymore...)

The main reason Phoenix knew the text was from that mildly thick detective was because of the word “pal.” And the “missed seeing your work” part. It did not take a genius to put it together from there. The clearly drunken nature of the typing was a bit of a surprise, though.

As if he were one to talk. He was nursing a headache and a soothing coffee mug of wine as he tried to figure out whether he could scrape together enough change to buy some bread in the morning. 

(Now that I think about it, ol’ Gumshoe’s pretty relateable right now.)

He blinked down at his phone in silence for a moment before sighing and picking it up, thumbs occasionally slipping as he tapped away.
