What are your five most popular works? (starting with the most kudos)
This is heavily AO3 centred. So, on AO3, the answers are:
Memory Cloud (Once, Emma/Regina), M, wip. Angst.
Paint It Black (Once, Emma/Regina) E, complete (triggery, be cautious). Angst.
The Waning Moon (Once, Emma/Regina) M, complete. Part of a series. Smut and angst.
The Blue Moon (Once, Emma/Regina). E, complete. SMUT. Smut, smutty, smut, smut.
Elmo’s ABCs, (Once, Emma/Regina). E, complete. Did someone say smut?
HOWEVER, it is important to note that in my entire fic history, I would heavily assume “Molasses and Taffy” (VM, complete, teen) would make the list, if not “Sleep, Perchance” (VM, complete, M). On livejournal they were extremely popular and remain to this day the most commented on fics. I have transferred them to AO3, but they were backdated to their livejournal publish dates, so didn’t get as many current views.
Which does not even count my Firefly fics, of which there were some really popular ones, Some of my best work went into either Firefly or Veronica Mars. I think OUaT got the rest of my best and now I’m just kinda petering out.
What are your five least popular works? (starting with the least kudos)
”She” (VM, teen, maybe, complete). 5 kudos. This one I get, it’s an extremely dark fic written in second person that looks inside the mind of a serial rapist. I think it has some of my better writing in it, but... not everyone likes the subject matter. Also a fic transferred from lj and backdated, so missed the prime audience years.
”The Ghost and Mrs Mars” (VM, M-E, complete), 17 kudos. Also a tricky concept, like, not really sure if people are THAT interested in a ghost getting weirdly obsessed and possessive over a live girl that he tormented in life, but hey... to each their own. Also backdated from lj.
”Revenge” (VM, M, complete), 17 kudos. Yeeeeeah. Like, if we want to talk about “hard to read”, this is the one. This is the very fucking one. This one and the companion, requested “Bitter Revenge” (whilst Revenge made it to AO3, I did not transfer Bitter Revenge, mainly because it was never finished and I felt it was too dark. Yeah, me, the writer of Paint It Black felt this fic was too dark to bring to AO3).
“The Absence of Sound” (Rizzoli & Isles, G, ficlet, complete). 17 kudos. Yeah, I don’t know with this one, I love it. It has some gorgeous imagery in it. But whatevs, not the most popular fandom and it never got big on AO3. Not the audience for it.
“The Last Laugh” (VM, G, complete), 18 kudos. Oh, come on guys, comedy gold right here. Me! I did comedy. It’s cute and funny (with angst, bc Veronica), Mars V Mars spy Vs spy short ficlet.
Are you surprised? Why?
Not really. I mean, I could have predicted the top five given the amount of kudos and comments I get on those ones. I still get both kudos and comments on PIB, even though that has been finished for years. Memory Cloud is current (although it’s been a long time between updates), and I am always getting comments/requests to finish/kudos notes for it. The others are smut, those are always popular.
The least kudos were to some extent not suprising. I mean, the fandom was flailing and old before I transferred my VM fics to AO3, and they were backdated, so missed a lot of people. There were also some tricky concepts involved. I think VM is really where I stretched my fic wings, and went outside my comfort zone in terms of who/what/how I wrote.
