Rammstein
A band I've loved since I was little. My parents love them and were frequently playing Rammstein songs, so I pretty much grew up with them. I've never not liked them- there were just times when I wasn't really actively listening to them or wasn't actively being a 'fan' of them.
I love how they provoke with their texts and videos- how they aren't afraid to take on 'taboo-topics' and tell a story through different points of view. I always appreciate it when an artist tells their work from the point of view of the 'villain', the 'victim', the 'spectator/bystander' and does so accurately, which Rammstein does. If they are singing from the perspective of the abuser/murderer/criminal, they don't sugarcoat and they don't censor anything, because the real person wouldn't do so, either. This obviously doesn't mesh well with all people, but I love that they don't give a shit about that and unapologetically do their own thing.
Even music-wise, they experiment and aren't afraid to divert from their usual hard-hitting, heavy sound if they so feel like it. The same goes for their music videos; there is always something macabre, twisted to them, but also lots of humour and story-telling.
Rammstein is a band you either love or hate- no in-between. It makes it easier for me to see who isn't judgmental because of certain, above mentioned aspects and who is, just because. Most of the time, people who hate them simply don't care enough to actually listen to what they're saying and doing and I frankly don't have time for them. (Btw, I speak German, as do most I know, so not understand them because of a language barrier can never be their excuse)
Text over.
