I think the problem is some people have it in their minds that tomorrow H/C are going to come out as a couple and everything against that is anxiety inducing . Realistically even without a GF that wasn't going to happen anytime soon. There's SO much more against them being queer, I hate that it matters so much that they're both men but it does. Even being on a still airing TV show has it's own issues, even for straight couples most don't come out until after their show/movie runs. Plus they're JUST starting out in their careers. it sucks, I hate it but it's reality
Super important disclaimer… We’re really early into this, y’all. I think you’re right, people are impatient, they want their cake now. But since things started noticeably heating up between them (we saw when), we’ve only realistically given them a few months to sort this out! Meaningful things take time. Making space for someone in your very different life takes time.
Imagine that you’re Hudson, dealing with being thrown into fame almost overnight, pulled away from your family and friends from your old life, having to suddenly launch? do damage control? on a relationship that was not built to withstand the massive spotlight on your life, knowing you’ve got a complex, unconventional history with relationships and your sexuality the media would love to dig up and sink their teeth into. Blinds start flying left and right, snakes start moving within your own circle, smear campaigns get launched from every corner, and people are being racist to you everyday for shits and giggles.
Now imagine you’re Connor, your only real passion is to create art and feature in art, and somehow you’re put onto this giant pedestal as some icon, and suddenly every quirky or weird, deeply personal thing you’ve comfortably done before is now dissected and shared for public consumption. They mine your past, they mine your very close friendships, your own ex smears you and airs your intimate laundry. And that bastard skews the truth, but you know you can’t feed the monster, so you have to just take it and accept that it’s changed the way people see you now. You just want to work and enjoy the work, but now you need to make peace with who you are as an image, as a star, and while that’s exciting, it’s more attention than you’ve ever had in your life.
Now put them both together, the feelings burn, they burn like a fire they can’t put out. And now you both have to make room for each other, change plans for each other, discuss both of your narratives to the public, and consider damage control for both of you, because now you’re a team. And being one unit is something you’d love to be, in your own way and your own time, but multiple echo chambers are demanding things of you and wanting you to fit into their boxes. Rumors fly every time you look at each other, and you both hate that, but you can’t not look into the light that sustains you.
They both don’t have the option to just tell us, “Everybody wait a minute,” and just go quietly disappear to get their situation together. The media was invited into their house. So now we get to see them move in real time, while they work hard to cover most of their tracks, hiding when they can to just be together and focus on building what’s theirs.
It’s just tough, man. A lot of y’all stay dooming because these two young people -that are discovering what they want, who they are, and how to reconcile it all- aren’t moving the way you want them to. They are human, they belong to themselves first. As fun as it is to gossip and observe, lead with empathy, lead with patience. Real life is hard and messy. Things don’t happen overnight.
And again.. if you’re not okay with things refusing to happen quickly, take some time out and come back later. Let us hang out and send them good energy in peace ❣️
