The Victorian Planing Minister has denied the Djab Wurrung Embassy's application for protection. The Djab Wurrung warriors who are bravely fighting to protect their centuries old birthing trees are now unprotected by the law. The government and police are preparing for another attempt to evict these people from their own land, this time with tanks.

Drop your weekend plans, instead invite your friends to come defend this sacred land, these sacred trees and your fellow humans who are being threatened with terrible violence for fighting for what has always been theirs.

In Victoria, Australia at the moment the government has cut down 350 year old sacred tree of the Djab Wurrung people against their wishes in order to make way for a new highway. This is destruction of the land that should be protected.. They plan to continue cutting down trees and its devastating. The government is denying the rights of the Traditional Owners of the land. The significant cultural heritage of the site should be given appropriate assessment and the site given protection as we do for historic architecture. “In recent weeks Major Roads Projects Victoria have been encroaching further and further along the proposed new highway route, desecrating sacred places and cutting hundred year old trees.The destruction of old trees for the highway extension are needless acts of cultural desecration that have been staunchly opposed for years”.

(A poem and artwork created in response to the proposed demolition of 260 trees in order to make way for the new Western Highway being built in country Victoria, Australia. The trees, including an 800 year old sacred birthing tree, have strong cultural and spiritual significance for Djap Wurrung people who have been the traditional custodians of this area for thousands of years. Such incredibly deep history, story and culture is being erased for the sake of a strip of tarmac that could easily run a different course.)
