Lily’s eyelids fluttered sleepily open, early morning sunlight streaming in through the window. It took her a moment to realize where she was, the unfamiliar and new bed, the room, the person next to her. After a second, however, she remembered, and a content and relaxed smile filled her face. She snuggled up next to Charlus, wrapping her arm around his middle. She hadn’t necessarily meant to wake him, but when she felt him stirring she didn’t feel guilty, happy to have him awake and with her.

“Morning, love,” she murmured, looking up to catch his gaze as his eyes opened. A fatigued smile curled at the corners of his lips before he responded.

“Good morning,” he replied, before leaning in to give her a light kiss. She hummed softly, glad to have him so close and available to her. It had certainly been a long road for them. But now, they could be together openly and without fear. The war was over, the Death Eaters defeated, and he was free from his home, free to be who he wanted to be. And with who he wanted to be. She just felt lucky that the person he wanted to be with was her.

“We still have a lot of unpacking to do today,” she reminded him fondly, glancing around the room at all of the unopened boxes strewn about it. She felt his hand reach down to rest against her face, pulling her attention back to him.

“Unpacking can wait for a little while, can’t it?” he asked, “It’s not my fault you have so many old copies of the Quibbler. If I had known that when I asked you to move in I might have requested you leave them in storage somewhere.” He was teasing her, that affection teasing that he did so well.

“Oi,” she teased right back, “I will never give up my copies of the Quibbler. Ever.” Her eyebrow arched up competitively, a quiet giggle escaped her lips before she leaned in to press them against his again. Everything was perfect. They were together, they were alive, they were safe. That was all that was important to her. Living together was just an added bonus. Not that she wasn’t happy about it. She was overjoyed. She got to spend every day with the man she loved, openly, freely. Thinking back on the years of hiding they had endured, it felt almost like a dream. Sighing, she pulled her head back, her eyes reopening to catch his gaze once more.

“We’ve certainly had quite the adventure together, haven’t we?” she said, her tone bright but with an ardent fondness that she knew in her heart would only ever be expressed for him, “Who would have thought? The Nott and the Potter, getting their happy ending.” Charlus nodded, slowly, his thumb gently caressing her cheek.

“Quite the adventure, you’re right,” he agreed, leaning in to rest his forehead against hers, “I could never have imagined an adventure this big in order to wish for it.” His words made Lily’s chest swell with happiness. He could still leave her stunned because of his devotion, even after all these years. She could feel his breathing, slow and steady, and she wrapped her arm a little tighter around him, their legs tangling together underneath the duvet. It was the most joyous feeling. This was their bed. Their flat. Their home. It was theirs, together. That most incredible word. Together. And now they could be open about it. Their future had never looked so bright. With that in mind, Lily leaned in once more, kissing Charlus soundly.
