hey! what do you think about Theodore Nott character in general in both in golden trio and next gen eras? how about Harry/Theo and Draco/Theo pairings? maybe you have some hcs about him, like trans or aroace Theo?

Theodore Nott as a character isn’t super explored but a lot of my headcanons do also admittedly come from old fics when I was more into main gen stuff.

The extent that we know about his character in canon is that his family has Scandinavian origins since Nott (Nottr) was the goddess of the night in Norse mythology, he’s a pureblood, he had some interest in dark magic and creating his own magical artefacts and that in his adulthood he became a well-known black market salesman for his inventions and even accepted commissions. He was ultimately arrested, and there’s no mention of a wife or any kids so it’s fairly safe to assume he would canonically have none.

As for fanon, I think the interpretation of him being really smart, really into Ancient Runes and Transfiguration, and being a bit of a playboy does make some sense to me. If he’s a successful black market artificer, basically, I think it checks out that he would be really smart and good at those types of subjects (especially since most runes are based on the Old Norse alphabet and he’s got Norse origins). Playboy just feels more like an archetype that he could easily fill while the other Slytherins are more stoic or calculated. Also, since he’s canonically not married, something we know was a big deal based on the reaction to Drastoria’s marriage, it’s probably safe to assume he wasn’t the settle down type.

More specific to my headcanons, considering the idea of him being a playboy artificer, it made sense that he might have at least one older brother to serve as an heir to the family, and continue the pureblood line. I tend to like giving him two older brothers (Achilles and Arnold) and a younger sister (Cassandra). I do remember in an old fanfic, just sort of on the spot, naming his parents Fornax and Ophelia, and it’s just sort of stuck over the years despite me having no real reason for picking these names, other than that Theodore is a Greek name.

I don’t have a specific identity I tend to assign to Theodore, but I do have ships that I like. You asked about Nottpott and Dragonott and … I like Dragonott. Dragonott is really fun to think about. Like Theodore is a somewhat more rebellious pureblood that’s never actually sullied his family name, but tries to get Draco to be a little bit more silly and fun. I like the idea of the two of them dating for a short period of time during their teens before Draco eventually abandons supremacy and marries Astoria. As for Nottpott … I have the tag blocked and if I see a fanfic tagged with it that makes me not want to read it. I don’t really know why I dislike the ship so much, but most of what I’ve seen of it is so fanon heavy that I can’t even enjoy Harry Potter dating Theodore Nott because he’s basically been made into an OC. At least in my experience. So that’s my opinion on that.

As for other Theodore ships, I like Bleodore, Thon and Theville as background ships, I used to really like Terrydore when I was first getting into HP, and I am a fan of Nottgrass, usually with a more negative interpretation of Theodore, where he’s bitter about how it ended with Astoria. Although, I do also think Dragonottgrass is a fun premise.

Years ago I did also come up with a daughter OC, Nora Nott, who was only created to fill a certain role in a fic that I ended up scrapping, but the idea was that Theodore married a muggle who ended up leaving when she found out they were magical, and part of why he turned to black market artificing was to figure out how to get her back or change the past, and that Nora ended up living with Cassandra Nott (the little sister OC from earlier) when he was arrested. She was also a werewolf for the original fic, just because of the way the story was going to turn out, but I was never certain on whether keeping that element for new fics made sense since the plot of that previous script was scrapped and it would make no sense but also she’s my OC and I can do what I want with her.

That’s sort of my basic opinions on Theodore. I don’t think there’s enough going on character wise to really say he has to be smart, rebellious and goofy, but it’s fun to imagine him being that way, especially considering what happens in his adult life canonically. I also don’t like when people call him a Death-Eater, because there’s nothing to indicate he was. Even in CC, he creates those time turners as a commission from Lucius Malfoy, not because he’s trying to help Rodolphus Lestrange or Delphi Diggory. He feels more like a vaguely sinister guy with no motive to become an actual killer.
