So i'd never heard of The Night Watch but i just googled it and holy shit that sounds like a story i need in my life. But heres my dilemma: it looks like a pretty long book and i'd be adding it to an existing summer reading list of very long books. Im a slow reader (visual processing issues say hey!) and id like to get the most bang for my reading. should i read the book first or watch the film and commit to reading if i fall in love with it? I dont care all that much about spoilers. Thanks <3
Hmm. Good question. This is a tricky one. I think I actually watched the film when I was halfway through the book so I’m either the best or worst person to ask. XD
Ah I feel you. I’m not exactly a slow reader but I find most books and comics initially hard to get into which is why I don’t tend to read much. Either way though books are a bigger investment than films because they require significantly more time an effort.
I’d say watch the film first (it’s really very good) because even though it’ll take impact away from some of the book’s more dramatic moments I think it’s a good sort of introduction to the more detailed story you get in the book. That way (like you said) if you love it you can then go on to read the book afterwards (which I really would recommend).
