Vote. Election Day in the US is November 8th. Vote.
You can check out who is going to be on your ballot (and if you’ll be voting on propositions) by using Ballotopedia or Vote411.
Exit polls are bullshit. Don’t choose to vote or not vote based on how the election is going already. It’s not a quiz where you’re trying to guess the right answers. (In 2000 major news networks declared a winner to the presidential election based on projections and one of the candidates actually conceded based on that. Then the projections shared by the news networks turned out to be severely flawed.) It’s not over until all the votes are counted.
Do you know where your polling place is? Locations are often schools, firehouses, or community buildings. You can find yours by calling your local Board of Elections (which will be listed on your county’s website).
Some states offer early voting. Your polling place might be different for early voting than it would be for Election Day. You can find yours by calling you local Board of Elections (which will be listed on your county’s website).
Make a plan for how to get to the polls. And plan extra time in case you have to wait on line at the polls. Lyft (a rideshare app like Uber) is offering 50% off up to $10 in ride credits to help people in need get to the polls. Enter code VOTE22 in the Lyft app. Offer available on November 8, 2022 only.
Some states require your employer to allow you time to vote. You can check for more info about that here.
Local candidates aren’t always able to afford websites, don’t let style matter over substance. Local candidates may have Facebook pages instead of websites.
Judges are important and have a LOT of power. They are supposed to be impartial so they don’t share political stances when they run. Learn more about a judge’s political habits by checking to see who has endorsed them (this will be on their websites). This is a good indication of the kind of behavior they exhibit.
Encourage others to vote. Do you feel represented? Yes, then great. Vote to keep it that way. You don’t feel represented? Vote to help change that.
Can’t vote in this election but want to register for next year? Registering to vote only takes a few minutes. Do it now to save yourself time later. Register to Vote.
