Summary:
"Odiaba esto… por si aún no era obvio. Wally se había acostumbrado a observar desde el margen desde que dejó esa vida. Nunca había sido fácil, pero su jubilación anticipada no había estado en sus manos. Había sido lo que necesitaba en ese momento. Sin embargo, por mucho tiempo que hubiera pasado, Wally no podía soportar quedarse sentado y ver cómo sus amigos lo arriesgaban todo para salvar vidas inocentes. Odiaba no poder hacer nada.
Y, por mucho que odiara decirlo... extrañaba la emoción. Extrañaba la euforia, la adrenalina, ese calor en el pecho que le decía que había hecho algo que realmente valía la pena."

Sometimes when Dick kisses Wally, he gets a little bitty static shock from his lips and it shouldn't be as cute as it is.
“Babe, it’s been a week!”
“I’m literally coming home tomorrow, you’re just impatient.”
“I’m a speedster!”
Dick rolls his eyes, tucking his phone between his ear and shoulder and finishing up his email. With a click, he sends off the last update to Mrs. Hannigan and closes his laptop. Dick gets up from the tiny, crappy desk and strolls across his hotel room to grab his suitcase, switching the call to speakerphone after dropping his phone on the bedspread.
“You know you could’ve come with me.” He says, loudly enough that Wally can hear him as he makes his way to the chest of drawers, pulling out the last few items of clothing he hadn’t worn in his time away.
“I had work!”
“It’s March break, you’ve got the week off.”
“I had report cards to do, Dickie.”
“You could’ve done them here.”
“Baaabe…” Wally whines, the audio ruffling like he’s flopped down on something dramatically. “I wouldn’t have gotten to see you anyway, you’d be too busy with the tournament.”
Dick breathes out a laugh, shaking his head because he knows Wally can’t see it. “Then why are you complaining?”
“Because I miss you.” The whine in his voice is gone, replaced with a soft longing that makes Dick’s heart skip a beat.
With a sigh, Dick looks down at his phone affectionately, as if the look could translate through the call. Obviously, it can’t, so Dick turns off the speaker and brings the phone to his ear. “I miss you too, love.”
It has only been a week since Dick went away for the gymnastics tournie, his little birds going all the way to Nationals - a fact he’s immensely proud of. Being their coach has been truly amazing, teaching these incredible kids how to tumble and flip better than anyone else, and they’ve taught Dick many things in return. Like that fact that he definitely wants to have kids of his own someday.
Hopefully with the endearingly annoying ginger on the other end of this call.
Nothing could have kept him from taking these kids to Philly for the tournament, but he will admit that he’s missed the hell out of Wally the entire time he’s been here. They’d only moved in together a few months ago and this is the longest they’ve been apart since. The distance reminds him of their first few years of dating, when Wally would run from Keystone to Gotham every chance he could because school was crazy or Dick had been grounded and they couldn’t see each other for weeks at a time. Wally would run anywhere for Dick, whenever he could, and Dick almost misses those days of getting swept off his feet at any moment.
Actually… well, that’s a thought, isn’t it?
“Are you busy right now?”
“No…”
“And you’ve got nothing planned?”
“Obviously. Why?”
“You just said yourself, you’re a speedster.” When Dick smiles, he can hear it in his own voice. Zipping up his suitcase and dropping it to the floor, he makes his way over to the door of the hotel room and unlocks the deadbolt. “You miss me that much, do something about it.”
There’s a pause, and Dick can almost hear the gears whirring in Wally’s head until it clicks. “Hotel?”
“The Marriot.”
“Room?”
“327.”
Dick laughs when the call ends abruptly, pulling his sleeve back to look down at his watch. It takes about 30 seconds before there’s rapid knocking at the door. Opening it, he barely gets the words “Hey stranger” out before there’s arms around his waist and a warm cheek pressing against the side of his neck.
“Why didn’t I think of this sooner?” Wally mumbles into his collarbone, squeezing Dick so tightly around the middle that he loses his breath.
“You’re silly.” Dick replies with a grin.
Wally pulls back just to pout at him, and then his gaze is shifting down to watch Dick’s mouth as he laughs. Then he’s leaning in like he couldn’t stop if he wanted to, like there’s a magnetic force drawing him closer. Dick pulls back teasingly, just before Wally can capture his mouth, and in the moment that their lips brush he feels the smallest spark against his cupid’s bow. The tiniest little static shock pricks at his top lip, and he swipes his tongue over it instinctively to soothe the sting.
It happens when Wally’s especially riled up, if Dick’s been away too long or is teasing him a little too much. The familiar little shock never phases Dick anymore, though it did the first time. It wasn’t his fault that Wally had no self-awareness back then, had shoved him against a wall and kissed him senseless after a particularly stressful mission. Dick can still remember how hard they knocked foreheads when he jumped, the sensation so odd against such a delicate bit of skin that he’d gasped in surprise.
Now, when he leans in to kiss Wally properly, another spark of electricity travels from his lips to run all the way down his spine.
