this fucking fanfic man I'm thinking about it daily and crying over it every week omfgggggg life ruining
okay heres a doodle dump of a bunch of wafflehouse/novwh (number one villain's wafflehouse) drawings and other stuff related to it ive done whilst working on the two wafflehouse animations that got yeeted o7 first off have a gif from the opening sequence of the first animation and a bunch of random borrower faces from random frames from that bit
for context, the idea was just a cool little intro thing where he opens up the villain rankings on a computer and 'corrects' it by putting his name at the top of the list. bcuz. yknow. borrower #1 and stuff I completely failed to notice how i drew him way too small in comparison to the desk and computer :sob: although theres some bonus easter eggs in the background! now have the random frames and then i'll start making this into a thread to get the rest of the doodle dump in here
hey so I'm rereading number one villain's waffle house and I'm immediately stuck on his first story. At first I thought he was just saying shit to seem even crazier - that's super common for fanon Tommy. I completely forgot how it went except that he liked photography and his camera got broken. What's the chances he actually killed his dad before he ran.
Also later a detail I remember catching in my first read was that he mentions a monster (parent) in the yellow house but later says two monsters. I thought it was mistake and he had two parents but only a dad is directly mentioned as far as I can remember. Which, if he did kill his dad, means that he considers himself a monster and probably has since he was eight.
Also the fact he killed his dad at eight makes him joining Jester a much different story. He wasn’t scared of being sent back, he was scared of being tried for murder. He had no choice and probably figured this was the only way his life could go.
Murder at eight would probably convince me I was already a villain, too. Monster indeed
but also, what if he had gotten adopted. What if time turner hadn't led Jester to him. When would he admit it. What would be the reaction. How would he view his new family. A murder joining a not-family of monsters would make sense, but a loving family? And when they become heroes?!?! Would he follow? Also back to the "would their family still be broken" bit from another rant
Just uggghhhhhh he's a villain because he's destined to be/always has been a monster. Oh my poor baby boyyyy
IT ALSO EXPLAINS WHY HE NEVER GAVE WILBUR HIS NAME!!! SO HE COULDN’T BE TURNED IN!!! MY PARANOID BABY BOYYY
How would Wilbur feel knowing the boy from the bench became Borrower
How would he feel knowing he'd already killed by then
my boyyyyssssss I love them I wanna put their feelings in a blender
MORE RANT NOVWH SPOILERS
Do you ever think about how tommy knew what a happy family looked like. He wanted Wil and Techno to be happy brothers and helped make that happen
Made them iron out their problems
Do you think he could have saved them as a kid
Do you think him being adopted would have given them an (albeit short) happy ending? yk besides the apocalypse
Do you ever think about the difference between Wil and Tommy
When they're little on that bench Wilbur doesn't tell his family because he's scared and Tommy doesn't share his name because he's scared and they might never know who the other is. the way years later they still care though they don't know each other. They don’t know this was the kid from the bench. Do you think Tommy remembers Wilbur?
They way they grew up... Wilbur is selfish and Tommy is selfless and both of them are doomed without the other. Wilbur will allow his resentment to build until his most important bridges are burned and Tommy will give away every single thing he has to someone who will never love him as he deserves. Both will destroy themselves but Tommy gets Wilbur to try and figure out the issues with the people he cares about (Tommy sure is great at keeping people who hurt him) and Wilbur shows him what a seminormal familial relationship is - introduces Tommy to people who won't take advantage of him and demand his flesh and blood as payment for showing a tiny bit of human decency by saving a homeless kid.
JUST Them!!!! Them!!! Selfish and Selfless and both fucking suck in their own ways and need people who care about them they can't do this alone. I love them. Parrallels toooooo
The author Tommy and Quackity "eldest daughter and father" and I think thats the same for Wilbur. He's giving EVERYTHING. He's tried everything he can to be noticed!!! to be praised and loved, just like Tommy!!! and both are used!!!
Maybe Tommy being there wouldn't have helped at all!!! maybe tommy can only save them now, and in return they'll be able to save tommy. maybe tommy would have suffered Wilbur’s fate if Tommy had been adopted younger. Maybe Tommy's anger would have finally gotten them noticed but i doubt it. Maybe this was the only way to get a happy ending even without the ancient evil hivemind and sort of prophecy stuff.
Maybe Tommy needed to see himself in Wilbur to save Wilbur, and maybe Wilbur will see himself in Tommy and save Tommy.
Thematic parallels? Are these thematic parallels?
they're fucking drowning and tearing themselves apart all at the same time and I think they're gonna break each other before they fix each other.
Borrower is gonna break the entire hero force via overwork because of Totem and I bet that some heroes are gonna have to fight with him to defeat the egg. I bet that'll fuck up some relationships.
Wilbur just being happy is already breaking Tommy. He's not exactly slowly figuring out somethings wrong. more like the evidence is piling up at his defenses and I bet he's gonna have the breakdown of a fucking century and make the entire fucking city feel it.
This fucking fanfic drives me crazy
I've thought of so many half-fleshed theories for the future (Niki being added recently UGH yesss things are even more complicated than I would have guessed before but her being connected to Fundy is oooooo)
...
ACTUALLY YEA FUNDY THEORY TIME
By what I understand, Fundy can't defect without putting the people he loves in danger, including Niki.
Can Niki defend herself? Can Fundy defend her? If it came down to choosing between Quackity and Tommy’s side who would he trust to help the people he cares about? Will he turn a blind eye and let Tommy do what he wants in hopes he can protect Niki and save Antfrost? Or will he stick by Quackity to give Niki a better chance?
I really really hope Niki gets a big part after that one chapter . It seems she's a lot more connected to all this bullshit than most people are. Her knowledge of what's going on sucks but it's still more than what Las Nevadas or the heroes know- so basically on par with Tommy’s trio and Schlatt.
How is Niki gonna be characterized? We've seen a little bit and it kinda seems like she's living in Hell. She knows too much but too little to do anything about it. Threatened from every angle so she can't take action. Maybe Tommy’s downright fucking suicidal plans and lack of caution (probably because his life was practically scripted) will allow him to help her out and they can kick ass together. Would Niki throw caution to the wind or would she rather help Tommy out? I kinda wanna see her crash out but that's just because I like it when Niki crashes out in fics.
OH MY GOD WHEN DOES SCHLATT REAPPEAR?!
He explicitly wanted to talk with Tommy omg I hope Time Turner left Schlatt a note somewhere about why Tommy is the one who's so important. Maybe Karl told Schlatt before they broke off and Schlatt got possesed. How long has the egg known about Tommy?
Does Schlatt know what Karl and Quackity did to Tommy?! Has the egg known Tommy long enough for Schlatt to know that Tommy is Borrower? Or will Schlatt have to track down Borrower?!
Does Schlatt know that Karl engineered this kid's life to be a living nightmare? Does he know about the abuse Borrower suffered from Jester?!?! Does Schlatt know that the people he cared about destroyed this kid's life?!
Will Tommy ever have a chance to heal? he sure as fuck can't go to therapy but there's no way in hell he's telling his backstory unless he does that thing where he tells people a funny story and people have to tell him that that isn't a funny story, that's fucking horrific
What's Schlatt gonna be like? What intel can he share? When will he appear? Has he already found out who Tommy is somehow? When can he get to Tommy without the egg seeing?
number one villains waffle house spoilers because i CANT
no because it the first thing we know about him is that he's Tommy's "best friend" no you don't get it you don't that's his best friend because he can’t look any deeper into his feelings cuz that should be his dad and his biggest enemy but he's so represed he can’t acknowledge either and the way we slowly gather the knowledge tommy had all along with growing horror at the abuse he suffered he can’t acknowledge his abuse or accept that what happened to him was horrible and not him being saved he was saved but that wasn't for his benefit oh my ggoooooddddd
I NEED SOMEONE TO UNDERSTAMD
cauese that should be his saviour and his father on one hand
but also thats his abuser who tortured and indoctrinated him and he should kill that guy
and he can’t acknowledge EITHER because he's gotten so fucked in the head and now he's being forced to develop a MORAL CODE?!
Can you fucking imagine and he LIKES KIDS!!! HE THINKS THEY'RE CUTE AND HE'S HAPPY WHEN THEY COME ASKING ABOUT HOMEWORK AND HE LIKES PETS. HE LOVES TAKING CARE OF ANIMALS. AND HE LOVES HIS FRIENDS AND HE CAN ACKNOWLEDGE NOTHING
Can you imagine Tommy should be able to say I would never fucking do that to a child but he can’t recognize that what happpened to him was wrong. he has so much love suffocating in his heart and he can't see that he would never have done that to a kid
He deserves to crash tf out but he doesn't know that. Omgggg if anyone ever learned what he went through my dude would be throwing up defenses and emotional barriers like it's fucking fortnite
AND THE FACT THAT HE'S STALKED CONSTANTLY
He knows that one way or another Quackity has and will always have control over him. he has the entire city, hundreds of spies FUCKING CHILD LOCKS ON THE BANK ACCOUNT. Tommy can't empty it and run. he can’t even fucking run. he can't disobey and he barely even fucking mentions it. it's just a passing narration. nothing wrong here just completely fucking trapped. The city is his playground but the fences are topped with barbed wire UGH
The child locks are just weird the like one time they get mentioned. Why does Quackity keep child locks on his bank account but it's such a small and important scene for their dynamic
THE FACT THAT THEY LEARN EACH OTHERS NAMES AFTER 8 FUCKING YEARS
AND FACES LATER
AND ON QUACKITYS SIDE
Tommy was basically brought to him by time turner whats the chances he knows karl brought him because he's important. is tommy a gift or a coincidence to him
does he see tommy as a final link to the ones he loved or a replacement
that bit about the one person who would never turn on him does he even realize karl led him there on purpose or did he basically impulse add to cart
tommy is an asset (sonnnnnn) to him at the very least but you fucking know he would have killed any one else immediately if they pulled that stunt. you fucking know they would not make it to the next day
same situation w tubbo and ranboo. quackity knows they exist but doesn't get tommys name until tommy tells him it. so he didn’t learn tommys name until tommy gave it willingly you fucking know no one else would get that level of trust fuck offff
Quackity loves him but no he can never love again because everyone will betray him including his fucking idiot employee (SON) who disobeyed for the apparentlyfirst fucking time ever
the kid he held while he cried but hes the reason he's crying oh my gooodddd. Toxic father of the year award
THE FUCKING MICE AAAA
NO BECAUSE there is so much power imbalance and fear and regret and it's just a passing fucking narration. unshakable tommy was brought to fucking tears by the guy he has no choice but to stay with unless he want to be starving on the streets again AND THE HE ONLY HAS ONE PERSON FOR COMFORT AAAAA
the fact tommy could have died out on those streets at 8... he had to stay... someone would bring him home where his monsters of parent(s?) (it's unclear) could have resumed their abuse or he could freeze and starve to death in an alleyway so clearly he had to stay with the fucking crazy guy who had him kill his own pets THAT QUACKITY BOUGHT FOR HIM
he didn’t know how close he was tp being saved... he didn’t know he could have been adopted by a kind and loving family if he held out one more day... could he have held out?
Do you think he ever interacted with other kids besides that short period of time with wilbur
We barely know anything about his bio parents besides that they're abusive. We only hear about wilbur when Tommy's homeless- we also know tommy is very cautious and guarded so there's a good chance he knew no one else plus the fact it took 8 years to give even fucking quackity his name
smart kid oh my god that poor fucking kid how do you think he remembered his own name? do you think he told it to himself. do you think his name might have not been tommy, thats just how he remembers it
do you think he was trapped in las nevadas, just vulpe and slime and fucking jester for company. people he didn’t even know the names or faces of
it seems fundy joined kinda young? idk i have to reread that bit it. tommy only recognizes him because of his body language and hybrid traits, this is his first time seeing his face or hearing his name
Was Tommy's first ever chance to talk to other kids (besides wil) tubbo and ranboo??? Do you think he came off so bright funny and charming in their first meeting because he copied quackity's demeanor? i think tommy mentions jester being funny so he isn’t always serious.
do you think everything tommy learned after 8 was from quackity, the man who taught him to read and write and defend himself. do you think quackity saw how unwilling tommy was to trust people and fed that fear as much as possible. do you think tommy could ever save himself from this filter over the world where all he gets to see is the evil in it. do you think the chips in the wallpaper of the casino and the villains in every alley of las nevadas taught him that the entire world was like that evil ass micro nation.
do you thjnk growing up in a place so full of objectively bad people who came because it's literally villain central made him think villains are the norm and no one is innocent
do you think about tommy helping ranboo with his hair. the fucking love tommy has for his roommates
DO YOU THINK ABOUT HOW THE PEOPLE HE LOVES ARE LYING TO HIM
HOW HE FOUND OUT PURPLED WAS MERCHANT AND THAT PROBABLY WAS NORMAL TO HIM BECAUSE HE SHOULD EXPECT EVERYONE TO BE BAD BEHIND THE SCENES
THE SHOCK THAT PHILZA IS A GOOD DAD SO SHOCKED HE REACTED PHYSICALLY?!?! STOIC DUDE REACTED PHYSICALLY TO SOMEONE BEING AN AVERAGE JOE?!?! BECAUSE THATS INCOMPREHENSIBLY KIND TO HIM?!?!
the way he seems so layed back almost normal in a weird way and tells us about the most horrific shit ever like it's nothing. average stuff like familial love nearly knocks him on his ass and we the audiance understand that - his thought process being the entire story so everything horrible is layed under some normalcy but going back connecting dots immediately makes you realize how bad it was.
do you ever think about how fucking quickly he buried the idea of a loving father. i remember desperately wishing he would understand that phil is the dad he deserved but he didn't think of quackity as his dad. He is so fucked up he didn’t see the man who took him in and took care of him and taught him since age 8 as a father, but as his "best friend"
BUDDY FORGET ABOUT THE FUCKING YELLOW HOUSE, YOU'RE STILL IN THE ABUSE!!! YOU ARE STILL BEING ABUSED!!! JUST BECAUSE HE ISN’T HITTING YOU DOESN'T MAKE HIM A SAINT
oh my poor fucking dude
the only fucking way he was ever going to have any fucking realization ever about anything is with skeppy. it literally be being possesed and passively influenced that saves him. do you think skeppy is sitting there in the passenger seat with a constant sense of shock and horror as he slowly peices together Tommy's life through how he acts and little shards of memories
Do you ever think about the end. When the bbeg is defeated. when skeppy can go free. Do you think skeppy will leave? probably right? he sure as hell isn't being revived.
Do you think bad will still be alive? tommy will somehow push the spirit to him? once tommy's power has grown even more.
Do you ever think about lonliness. Or the ant on the circut board with wisps of memory.
Tommy is the ant. Skeppy is the circut board.
Imagine tommy takes control, cuts ties, saves the world and himself and then lets go of skeppy. In his moment of complete clarity (seeing the pov of a normal person) he fixes so much and leaves so much fallout and then his catalyst is gone. he knows what happened but that passive influence is gone. that moral compass is mostly gone, just the what he learned for it remains. like having a book snatched away while you're still reading.
Do you think about him letting go of punz and skeppy at the same time. being left with only Karl's power which (based on an author's note) becomes one of his own powers, seeing as not enough of karl remains for it to even influence him.
Do you think about that moment of relief, filled by the deepest, lonliest greif?
Do you think Borrower's powers are a metaphor for love?
