1. Elizabeth was something of an outcast in her first middle school, so much so that she still believed herself to be one when she changed schools in seventh grade, and continued to remain on the fringes throughout High School. What she never learned was that many of the kids at her new school merely viewed her as an oddity for not seeking out interaction more, and a few even mistook her insecurity and silence for snooty aloofness.
2. The change of schools took place because her parents wanted to get her out of that toxic environment. Complaints were made, and the police were even called a couple times, but it didn't help. In fact, the tauntings evolved into beatings, which she kept to herself for fear of things getting even worse of she 'tattled' again. The last three months in her old school were plagued by constant anxiety and nausea, and she rode the school bus every day in fear of her life. She was 12 years old.
3. She grew very close to a boy who usually went by the nickname 'Danny' in her Junior Year, but they had a falling-out at the end of Senior Year that partly stemmed from misunderstandings and hurt feelings. They lost touch after graduation, but she never forgot him, and sometimes wished that she hadn't let him go.
4. Another boy who went to their High School, a giant of a human being named Alvar who stood at 6'8" after his final growth spurt, also had eyes for her in High School but kept his distance because she was 'taken'. In their adulthood, though, they were a couple for nearly two years. Unfortunately, even though Alvar loved her, he didn't love her enough to combat his wandering eye, and he ended up making a mistake that caused the end of their relationship as a couple. They remain friends to this day, but he regrets having blown his chance with her.
5. Liz saw her old 'sort-of boyfriend' from High School a few years after her break-up with Alvar when he walked into her place of work; it turns out she is the head manager (but not the owner) of a craft store, and when she saw him picking out fabric for a project, she sidled up to him and drawled, "Of all the craft stores in this town, you had to walk into mine." She made it clear that she was actually very happy to see him by smiling warmly and talking over his stammering. "How've you been, Danny?"
