I was looking around and see what I could turn into cute nifty little cards, and I came across magic squares. To be precise, planetary magic squares. In magick(OK I don’t know which branch this is), you can use magic squares to help you draw a sigil pattern. And you use the appropriate planetary magic squares to activate the particular planet’s powers to help you. This one has a lot to do with numerology and sigil, which are stuff that I still don’t really know. A lot of the websites I come across that explains these sort of things are really really old, and the ones that do explain them occasionally have those scary looking baphomet images. 

While magic squares bring in more planetary energy, you also have sigils that block the planetary energy, which might be useful to use during retrogrades. But you know, with anything else on this living plane of existence, do it in moderation. In any work of magick, the inclusion of universal forces should be in harmony with your intent. Again, I happened to be one of those nosy little kids who thought magic squares make great patterns, and I have absolutely zero idea on how to activate sigils, let alone planetary powers, so make sure you do your research before trying any cool spells :) Ugh this is when I wished that Hogwarts is a real thing even though I probably would end up to be a squib.

All in all, this week’s exploration on magic squares help deepen my understanding of the powers and symbolism of the planets. On to the next exploration!

I admit, I’m in love with the old gigantic scythe because it is big and ominous and looks hella cool. But I placed it in a ripened paddy field because that’s probably when a scythe is gonna be used--the harvest season. My people had their culture arranged around the harvest cycle. Understandably, back then rice was everything. No rice, no food, the end. But now, even as we’ve all moved on to jobs that does not require us to farm and worry about the weather all the time, we still make our biggest celebration around this magical idea of harvest, the Kaamatan. It’s not as largely celebrated on my island, but bruh, on the mainland, that’s where the harvest celebration go really all out. And I know I’ve missed out on that growing up because usually that happens during the school year, not when it is a long school holiday. But since I’m out of the school system, I’ve been given more chance to experience all these festivities and I love it.

I didn’t just want to draw a floating heart, so I decided to put it on a very familiar childhood medium--a paper plane. We didn’t get to throw paper planes a lot, which makes sense because we probably have to pick them up ourselves, which is part of responsible living. But I think in those times there were pockets of moments where we thought writing confession letters were amazing and writing in everyone’s memory books were cool and so we did that. Me and my classmates. And I remembered back then that the really cool people were the ones that could talk to both boys and girls well. I admired that.

Warning: mention of religion.

Islands, being islands, have plenty of beaches around, and I didn’t understand the luxurious access I have to these natural wonders until I moved away. I remembered having to attend baptism services and they were always traditionally done in the sea, full immersion style. I also remembered being dragged to the beach to hang out with this coworker of my mom who was talking about me and my future, all with the assumption of me and “my man”. All because apparently my mom thought I was going through a rebellious phase and thought getting a coworker to talk to me will work wonders. When literally it was just because she does not spend time with me in person, that she does not even know who I am. That conversation was the first time that anyone even used the idea of a future partner of mine with the words “your man”. Man? What man? I, can have a man? I was so confused, and maybe even a little touched that this is probably the closest I will ever get to an adult acknowledging the fact that I will in fact, date some day. It’s just that even now, my mom has not even got around to this dating conversation with me. And that’s sad. If I can go back to that fateful conversation, I just wanted to add in this question: Are you sure I want a man?

I was getting comfortable with the idea of tarot, and was pretty new to the idea of Lenormand decks, BUT THEN I came across the Petit Etteilla deck, which is really the ancestor of Lenormand. But the way how the original author ascribe meanings to ordinary piquet decks make me want to do a petit etteilla deck.

The animal in the dog card look very fox-like, and I knew that there is no way I’m going to draw something similar for the fox card. So I drew a “flying” fox instead. Which is really your fruit bat, but still. Maybe because it was as orange as the regular fox, so that’s why it is called the flying fox?
