((Yes there is a difference on fucking up with a shallow character on things like fandom representation.

And fucking up on things that actually affect people's lives on a daily basis with anyone anywhere.

Chances are, someone isn't going to discriminate against you at a job to not hire you or fire you because you like Supernatural, or some certain music, or shit like that.

But it is pretty clear, and often seen, that they will because of your race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, etc. 

There is a big difference on misrepresentation and perpetuation of stereotypes that really affect people's lives when it comes to that kind of shit. This is why it is so so important to not make things like gender identity a trend, a guilt thing, or even hey that's a cool idea without any proper research or understanding of what you are trying to do. ))

EDIT:

(( AND NO. I am not trying to discourage anyone or make anyone feel bad if they did fall into this kind of trap. Realize you mistake and fix it. If you want to have, say like a non binary gender character, then by all means go ahead. All I ask is that you put thought into it, and understand it, so you don't badly romanticize it, mis-represent it, or just provide any poor conception that would turn it into a joke or invalidate what is there because you are fucking winging it without knowing what you are doing or why you are doing it (no solid reasons). ))
