woooaaaaahhhhh finalllly!!! restday - studyday - longday - loveday! i keneet wait. egzoyted.
the feels.
T-A-N-G-A!
I incurred my first dirty needle stick!!!!
Before this time, I'd never actually stuck myself with a needle. My clean streak ended in AMU. I have a skillful artistry in handling sharps but yah might not be my day.
My patient was medically fit for discharge but jus cus I am a super nurse, I extended a litol help in giving her the last insulin injection. The next thing I know I felt a sharp twinge in my left middle finger. Lyk wtf. I know it's solely my fault but while I was doing the injection the nurse in charge was like do this, fax this, print this and call the district nurse and bla bla bla so I was rushing to get things done and boom injured myself. Petty. So it's also her fault ok!
Torn between keeping it a secret vs my own safety. So I decided to be honest and told my superiors about it. I've been milking the wound like a blood drive phlebotomist checking your hemoglobin while rinsing it with water. Was told to go to emergency department as a hospital protocol and get some blood tests.
As my memory confirms, the patient was admitted cus of AKI. For her history, she's got hypertension and nothing extraordinary that I shud be worried about if you knw what I mean. But despite this, I still admitted myself in Acute and Emergency department jus to get things done the right way. I was asked to wait for the triage nurse to call my name and I was lyk, is there no priority lane for me? I was wearing the hospital's uniform and it be awkward to wait along with all other patients and I got some other patients left in the ward so I need this done ASAP. I waited anyway.
After ILS training, whenever I am in public, I've been imagining someone havig a cardiac arrest in front of me and whether or not I'd be able to handle it gracefully. And then I heard a loud B-O-O-M!!!!!!! Found a patient lying on the floor, I ran towards the patient and asked him, "Sir,sir, sir are you okay?" and good thing he answered right away - he was not unconscious THANK GOD! And then came some of the emergency department staffs to help. It was like adrenaline rush and I cudn't even believe that my body's reaction was that fast. Then, I heard my name - it's from the TRIAGE nurse.
She was looking at me lyk what happened you stupid brat. Cudn't agree more, it's the stupidest thing to get yourself injured with a dirty needle. Whenever there is a dirty needle stick, the potential donor's and the stuck person's blood are sent for testing. This information is used both to treat or reassure the stuck employee and to establish a record of serotype. So my blood was sent, and unfortunately, I told the doctor that the patient might no longer be around as we speak cus she's oredi going home. So he went on reassuring me that it was a low risk of anything but decided to give me a hepatitis vaccine.
And yah, here I am nao, suffering from that vaccine. It made my left arm numb and I cudn't raise it. The site has become so red it is probly normal. I hope everything's fine.
one must taste my version of binagoongan :) cudn’t be more proud. 👩🏻🍳
Spring came, although late, in London but who am I to complain? - Canada's still at 0 degrees (or less) ryt now. It has finally given us days with no coats and glorious sunshine. Well, everyone seems a little more cheerful (not me, cus y'knw i'm always cheerful).
I got on the tube, and after a few changes, arrived at Goodge Station - where me and my friends decided to meet. The area was parked with lots of people. Obviously I wasn’t the only one wanting to enjoy the fine weather.
For the 20-degree weather today, patio tables and people came out of hiding - men without their suit jackets and women almost naked. Lavenders. Mauves, Whites and Purples in their subtle manifestation of spring blossoms.
We've spent few hours at Regent's Park playing cards and just literally observing people removing their tops whilst basking under the sun. As we get to have few walks in the area, I was rly tempted to use my umbrella cus it's becoming extremely hot. But jus cus I respect the BRITS loving the sun, I didn't, and I suffered. >.< Felt like I became an offering to mother sun for world peace.
We've then decided to try and eat some "dirty icecream" at Mamasons. But getting there was a complete struggle. Went to Bakerstreet Station - platform 3 c/o google maps, but we were on dismay as we heard the announcement - THE PLATFORM IS OUT OF FOOKIN SERVICE and asked us to find altrnative routes. So we took a bus jus so we can have a taste of that not so dirty dessert. We've waited several minutes, and then BUS 27 came, it was so crowded. But then again, we have to ride it or else we'll have to wait another mins more. So we ended up standing in the entire 20 mins journey.
Arrived at Camden Market where it's located. We then ate dinner prior to eating that damn dirty ice cream. Decision after decisions. Struggle after struggles. And the last thing I remember, I was feelin cold on my way home after eating that ube flavored scoops with my short shorts cus temp started to decrease as the night goes.
UKRN.
Got my pin few weeks ago, but I never had the chance to write how overwhelmed I was. Aym like shet I would have to do dis job for 3 years, 3 fookin years, 3 looonggg yearsss.
I've done so many exams to be diz far. The IELTS, the CBT, and then the OSCE. No retakes, all in just one go. So I convinced myself that I really am for this.
Shocked at how fast my supernumerary weeks were. And now here I am bravely survived the past 3 months. I couldn't count how many butts in different sizes I've wiped. I have had the opportunity to hold hands with and give comfort to the dying and to cry with families left behind. I washed deceased patients after I've been unsuccessful in saving their lives. One would say it is a miserable way to earn a living. So being a nurse - I don't think you'll like it.
I don't know with the other Trusts, but in ours, nurses are expected to do more with less staff and resources. We spend more time with the papers that needs filling up than we are able to spend with the patients, yet we are held responsible to the patient’s satisfaction during the entire hospital stay.
Most patients here would want to be treated like they're paying for a 5 star hotel - far way different from what we have in PH. Some patients would want their pain to be of my priority like oh sir wait, my life is my priority. jk.
Many times I am in tears throughout the entire process while wishing I could just go home and hug my dear Matty. I have no choice but to cope and motivate myself that the 12 hour shift will soon end.
