Doing some clean-up duty over here, getting a couple of stops that aren’t on the normal map, then crossing the Nusle bridge (which is always a delight) to get the one bus line I’ve been putting off nestled in a gorgeous area between Karlovo náměstí and I. P. Pavlova. All in all, a great walk for a Friday afternoon, despite both the humidity and the occasional rain.

Of One’s Own Volition, Praha, August 2025

Nusle Bridge towering over the Nusle District is infamously nicknamed the suicide bridge due to the estimated 200–350 suicides since its opening. A poignant installation titled Memento Mori: „Of One’s Own Volition” was installed in 2011 in Folimanka Park beneath it. It was created by Czech artist Krištof Kintera, who designed an ordinary-looking street lamp whose light instead points upward toward the bridge and sky, accompanied by a modest plaque reading: „In memory of all those who took their own life in this place.”
