«“Do not despair. I know you will not despair. You have a manly and a proud heart. A proud heart can survive a general failure because such a failure does not prick its pride. It is more difficult and more bitter when a man fails alone.”» (Part One, Chapter 3) ~ «“There is no story that is not true . . . The world has no end, and what is good among one people is an abomination with others...”» (Part Two, Ch. 15) ~ #Finished: #ThingsFallApart by #ChinuaAchebe • Rating: 9/10 • Favourite characters: #Nwoye • Favourite chapters: Part Three Chapter 25; Part Three Ch. 24; Part Two Ch. 16; Part Two Ch. 17; Part One Ch. 11 • My review in a nutshell: Reflected from the point of view of the Igbos, mostly through #Okonkwo and his family, this novel is an unforgettable representation of the British colonization and Christianization of the Igbo clans in #Nigeria, which was foreshadowed through various elements early in the novel, such as locusts and Okonkwo's reckless or self-confident behaviour. While #Achebe presented the Africans and Africa, under a new and authentic light in this work, with their exotic lifestyles and great proverbs worth-mentioning, unlike the colonial literature had done for a century before him, he greatly pointed out that the tables might dramatically turn, which, when it happened, nothing would ever be the same for Africa, nor for the colonized individuals there, as the surprising ending shows even the proudest "falls apart". ~ «“I have learned that a man who makes trouble for others is also making it for himself.”» (Part One, Ch. 11) ~ «“It's true that a child belongs to its father. But when a father beats his child, it seeks sympathy in its mother's hut. A man belongs to his fatherland when things are good and life is sweet. But when there is sorrow and bitterness he finds refuge in his motherland. Your mother is there to protect you. She is buried there. And that is why we say that mother is supreme...”» (Part Two, Ch. 14) ~ #Ezinma #Ekwefi #Obierika #Unoka #Igbo #Ibo #Umuofia #africanliterature #postcolonialliterature #book #books #bookstagram #bibliophile #literature #novel #read #reading #instabook #justfinished #bookworm #classics https://www.instagram.com/p/CAFfPJsA5Ww/?igshid=6uxklqh4ae5k

Obiano and Nwoye: From projects to propaganda
[ad_1] By Peter EkwuemeFor an administration that has scored woefully in terms of projects implementation, it is not totally surprising that the Willie Obiano administration in Anambra State has resorted to propaganda to sustain its viability and make an undeserved desperate claim for a second term. Since last year, the operatives of the government, including its chief anchor, that is the…
