Cecil House, NYCHA General Manager
Once we've cleared the backlog, that frees up a lot of time for my workers to tackle the new jobs as they come in
Cecil House, NYCHA General Manager
NYCHA says they have reduced the repair backlog by over 100,000 since they started their new plan.

Hiring new maintenance workers, increasing efficiency, and injecting enough funds to get things done. Everything that has to happen for public housing in New York to remain in place. General Manager Cecil House is doing his very best to make sure the people get what they want. Unfortunately you can't please everyone, especially when people are so set in their ways, with their minds already made up.
Cecil House of NYCHA has made huge strides in repairing the agency's aging buildings. In the last two months maintenance crews have completed over 73,000 jobs! NYCHA still has a big task but I am impressed with their current general manager's progress.

NYCHA has been attacked left and right in the media recently. This article examines NYCHA's shortfalls and their causes. Credit to ANHD for a well rounded article on NYCHA!
With $10 million in funding from the City Council, NYCHA anticipates filling an additional 116,000 work orders annually – reducing approximately 12 percent of the maintenance work orders in the backlog. The Authority expects to create 176 new jobs that will be filled by NYCHA residents. NYCHA anticipates that half of the positions will be filled by graduates of the NYCHA Resident Training Academy (NRTA) and half will be filled by current residents working at NYCHA.
