My freedom as a disabled person is under attack...
My freedom as a disabled person is under attack. The NYSDOH is looking for comments, so I left this one
As a disabled person who relies and thrives thanks to the CDPA program, I am horrified that it's once again under attack.
What is going to happen to all the people who rely on the program? Be forced to rely on traditional services? In many areas, traditional services can't keep up with the demand and rely on CDPA...
Furthermore, I've had traditional services and they sent me someone who didn't even speak the same language as me and so we couldn't communicate our respective needs.
It was nothing short of dangerous & my health only got worse. The agencies don't send you someone w/ experience w/ your particular disabilities and needs. But let's put that aside for the moment. So what happens when the traditional agencies can't meet the demands?
Will the majority of us be forced against our will, out of our homes & into institutions? It is NOT okay to force a large group of people from marginalized communities out of their home & lock them up! What is our crime? Being disabled? needing help?
Furthermore, the CDPA program creates over 100k jobs for the state. It is a win win, & it's nothing short of an outrage & disgusting that the state somehow found $49 million to fund vanity license plates, but somehow can't find the funding in the budget for humans.
Attacks to the CDPA is an attack to freedom, attack on marginalized communities (as disabled people and senior citizens exist within every marginalized communities), it is an attack on the poor (as medicaid is a forced vow of poverty)...
it is an attack on the small businesses who run FI's or CDPA agencies, it is an attack on the workers who be will losing their jobs that they rely on to support themselves and/or their families, and lastly it is an attack of basic decency. #SaveCDPA
