Disabled and neurodivergent employees are just as smart, capable, competent, innovative, creative, hardworking, etc. as our non-disabled colleagues.
We should NEVER be seen as- or made to feel like- a burden, a liability, a safety concern, incapable, incompetent, lazy, untrustworthy, extra work to accommodate, their accommodations are “special treatment” and “unfair to other employees”, etc.
We also deserve to be listened to and believed like the adults we are and shouldn’t be made to jump through hoops and fill out a whole bunch of paperwork and get doctors’ notes for management to determine if we’re actually disabled enough to qualify for even the simplest and most basic of accommodations only to need to go through the process again periodically or when new leadership takes over, even when the condition is permanent and stable.
We deserve to be treated with dignity and respect by both management and colleagues alike.
We deserve to be recognized for our contributions and successes and to be seen as valued members of the team.
My name is Chrys! I am a disabled butch dyke, I am a disability activist and I am also a computer science masters student! Quite literally what I do for a living RN is research accessibility in software and how to improve our online ecosystem to be more accessible!
And I am here to say!
🎶there is never an excuse to use Gen AI! And the person on the image below is full of shit! And does not speak for disability pride🎶
Yes, that includes if you have a disability!
Yes, that includes if you can’t draw!
Yes that includes if you have accessibility needs!!!!
Need someone to info dump to? Use a journal! Or use writing programs like Ellipsus to serve as a virtual journal! There are plenty of speech-to-text programs to use for this if you have mobility issues that prevent you from writing or typing!
Need text-to-speech? Plenty of free programs or plugins out there with ethically sourced voices that don’t run on AI, and don’t use Claude or Gemini or ChatGPT voices.
If you need things explained to you, or need advice, or perspective on social situations, there are multiple different websites and forums you can pose your question to, such as dedicated Disability threads on Reddit, Facebook, or Tumblr— but also multiple websites like Able Here that are entirely dedicated to the disabled community.
Having needs does not make you a bad person. And hell, I won’t even say that using AI inherently makes you a bad person. But using AI is, in every single metric, harmful, to you, to your community, and your planet. Data centers are ravaging the local communities, driving our climate up, sucking up our water, and causing our costs to skyrocket. They are built on LLMs that require thievery and plagiarism to function. They burn THOUSANDS of dollars and pollute the planet to scrape the internet and steal the words of creative and recycle them into the “most likely” answer— which very often is the answer you WANT to hear, and not necessarily the CORRECT answer.
Gen AI is NOT ACTUAL AI. It is an Algorithm that has specifically been trained to convincingly sound like AI, to tell you what you want to hear, when you want to hear it. It is provably detrimental to the planet, to the ecosystem, and to your mental health!
THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR USING GEN AI, AND THAT INCLUDES DISABILITY.
I just saw a Tiktok saying (quote) "Took too much Tylenol while pregnant. Now I'm throwing a Grinch birthday party in June". (End quote)
(Referencing when RFK Jr. said Tylenol causes Autism. So saying their kid is Autistic.)
The comments are a bunch of people talking about birthday parties they've thrown their Autistic children.
Except no one is saying Autistic. They're calling them their "Tylenol [kid/son/baby]".
This is already shitty - making fun of someone's interests. But did people really create another euphemism just to avoid saying Autistic?
I shouldn't be surprised, really. (Quote unquote) "Autism moms" will go to extreme lengths to infantilize and dehumanize their Autistic children. So creating a euphemism - particularly one born out of someone else being shitty - is the logical next step.
So do people who have invisible autoimmune conditions not have real disabilities because they wouldn’t be affected by the ugly laws? Because they could get around in the world before the ADA existed? Someone who isn’t visibly disabled isn’t actually disabled because those history disability discriminations MAY not have applied to them?
This mentality is why we need disability pride, and WHY disability pride NEEDS to emphasize the existence of invisible disabilities. Chronic migraines are disabling. Autoimmune conditions are disabling. Mental health can be disabling, conditions like ADHD and depression ARE disabling, just because you cannot SEE what is impeding a person’s ability to function DOES NOT FUCKING MEAN THEY ARE NOT DISABLED.
tldr: theres an ad with flickering lights currently prominently displayed at a major train station in berlin, and i'm asking people to join me in bothering the adspace company about that.
So. at S-Bahnhof Friedrichstraße (a very central train station to local public transit) in Berlin, Germany there's currently an ad being displayed on giant fucking displays that has a sequence with pretty prominent flickering lights. prominent enough to give me a headache at least. so this post has two functions, for now
a warning to people with photosensitive epilepsy. i saw it play there as of today (7th July 2026). it's a pretty short sequence (1-2 seconds) in an ad that first shows a young white woman with dark hair wearing headphones in a only very dimly lit surface. i know for sure it's being played at platforms 11 and 12, don't know about the other platforms.
to ask people to join me in contacting the company responsible for getting ads on those displays to complain about it. ideally you'd be able to write your own text from the relevant details, but i'll put a translation of what i wrote here bc copy-pasted e-mails would still be preferrable to no e-mails.
The details in question:
where: S-Bahnhof Friedrichstraße, Platform 11 and 12
what: an ad on a big display having a short sequence with very bright flickering lights. i unfortunately can't remember the name of the company, but it shows a young white woman wearing headphones pretty much the entire time.
why a problem: epilepsy trigger (that can kill people in the worst of cases). also headache trigger but that one's a bit less dire. it's in one of the busiest stations in Berlin, thus likely to be seen by a lot of people
what we want them to do: stop playing this ad unedited like that, and stop accepting ads that do this without further editing
whom to bother: the adspace company Ströer. to be contacted (according to the official website of the S-Bahn Berlin). further contact details can be found at https://sbahn.berlin/kontakt/?acc=aa368-p11-t5
i'm hoping that if enough people show concern over issues like this, they might feel pressured to do something.
my translated mail text under the readmore
Hello,
I am writing to you because I am concerned about one of the short promotional videos being played on the large screens at platforms 11 and 12 of the Friedrichstraße S-Bahn station. Unfortunately, I can no longer remember the name of the advertising company, but there was a brief period of about 1–2 seconds during which the otherwise fairly dark screen began to flicker intensely, and the sheer size of the screen caused this to significantly affect the lighting conditions. One detail I can recall is a young woman wearing headphones in the background, in case that helps identify the specific advertisement. Such flickering is a potential trigger for epileptic seizures, which in the worst-case scenario can be fatal. I myself do not have epilepsy, but I do suffer from chronic headaches, which can be exacerbated by such images.
In the interest of making Berlin’s public transportation more accessible, I would like to urge you to consider not playing advertisements that contain such flickering segments without modification. I would appreciate a response that takes into account the needs of chronically ill S-Bahn users.
Sincerely,
Autism ‘activism’ is probably the thing that pisses me off the most as an autistic girl. It seems that most of these people either believe that being polite, sociable, and well read is somehow a horrible imposition on the poor autistics or that they’re a master race who are superior to those poor neurotypicals.
Like none of them are organizing for more funding devoted to special education or raising the resource limit for disability benefits. Nope they’re just a bunch of fuckin posers.
i wish there was more social existence you could participate in laying down. I wish there were cafes that were two little futon beds parallel to each other with a low table in between so you could eat and drink while lounging. I wish there were group activities like painting or glazing clay or theaters that were designed to have beds and bed-height tables instead of chairs. I wish there were beds alongside benches outside for anyone to use. I wish air mattresses or roll-out beds were as common as cheap shitty chairs at things like barbeques, beaches, and concerts. so much life would open up to me and be enjoyable if I could lay down instead of sitting or standing for prolonged periods and completely wearing myself down with pain.
