okay wow
I’m doing my Mary Russell reread, right, I finished O Jerusalem a couple days ago and now I’m halfway through Justice Hall
the last time I read these was probably 2011 or so, before my slash/sj awakening
and it just hit me how different it looks with slash goggles, but at the same time it’s not all that different?
Like it’s obvious to anyone that Ali and Mahmoud are each other’s person, right, but you read it with slash goggles on and they’re... yeah. That is a Relationship.
Russel refers to them as married in Justice Hall, even! In the same sentence that mentions a canonical lesbian! How did I not even think “Oh, they’re together”?
but at the same time they could just as easily be, like, aro and/or ace queerplatonic partners? Which is pretty much how I was interpreting it at the time, I just didn’t have the words
I just think it’s so interesting how the picture is painted so clearly of how important they are to each other, but so much is left to the imagination as well. You can put it in a very different frame, but it’s still the same picture. Russ describes who they are to each other without letting the audience into that partnership
so that what is between them is between them and that’s all there is to it
I just love these books so much okay
Just watched this movie. Finally. I have been looking for it forever! Its a touching story about a jew and a muslim who are friends turned enemies in the fight for jerusalem. I highly recommend you watch it. It really hits home with recent events.
Not all Muslims are Terrorists. Not all Jews are Saints. But we all can live in peace under one God.
30 Days Movie Challenge Day 8 Movie that makes you sad : O Jerusalem (2006, Chouraqui)
A tale of friendship between two men, one Jewish and the other Arab, as the state of Israel is being created.
