Oatley Academy Live! Personal Project
I’ve enrolled in the Oatley Academy Live! online school for getting personal projects off the ground and I saw that some people made links to their tumblr tags and I wanted to do it too!
The project I’m going for is to write, storyboard and do visual development for three short story ideas I have. Maybe I’ll animate them one day, who knows. I’m doing this because I’m dead set on a career in animation, and this will help me get into the workflow. Much like how I taught myself live-action filmmaking by making a short film in school, this will help me bridge the gap.
I’ve got one dramatic story written out that was adapted from my friend Sam’s story he pitched me almost two years ago (!!!), an action story (again, adapted from Sam*), and a comedy inspired by a terrible pun my boyfriend made one day.
So with these three stories, I think they’ll cover a lot of genre and style territories, as well as exercising my artistic and storytelling skills into a huge, buff, macho drawing arm.
My friend Andrew (a very talented photographer and writer) and I have made a pact to finish our big projects by December 25th. Because I’m lyk sooooo production management, I’m planning out my calendar right now with deadlines and milestones before I dive in and start drawing. Kind of like how chefs have mise-en-place, as an artist, I need a mise-en-schedule.
*Sam has the crazy ability to make anything into a story. He has YouTube channel where he makes one short film a month (holy crap!) that I help out on once in a while: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtdc2pLIdlkN9Y9o0RtfAdA
