ah yeh that's what i meant when i said fanservice, fanservice as in free! doesn't bother me (lol obviously) unfortunately kyoani's fanservice is often more concerned with pleasing male otaku viewers than anyone else so

i gave knk a shot and the 1st eps actually had me believing it might be able to grow past the moe thing, which i loathe and is the grossest kind of fanservice, but ep 5 was 2 much 4 me and i dropped it. 

siiiigh sIIIIGH yeah i've not seen anything of theirs besides free!.  that's really a shame because tbh the art in kyoani shows is my jam.  uGH. (altho if there's a studio that goes the german-expressionist-ish-aesthetic route pls 2 let me know bc that will be my superlative jam)

i haven't absorbed a lot of animanga so i didn't realize that that trope was a thing but yeah. yeeeahhhhhh.  knk seems to want 2 subvert things while doing them at the same time which is, i mean, that's an attempt, but that's also not how it works.  i'll probably stick with it, tbh, i'm 2 in2 the digital glitch supernatural thing.  siiiiiiighs

LSDKJFS i don't mind fanservice in itself but when it panders to the male gaze i literally fly into the void.  im particularly deeply annoyed because the art on this one is gorgeous and i enjoy the potential and aesthetic of the digital glitch super natural powers but. b u t. [deep voice] it has done the thing.

it's not just kyoani, i caught part of the light novel and it's in that a lot too.  but yeahhhhhhhhh kyoani could've excised that easily and had a much better / less discomfiting show
