just cleaned him out. i thought i could hold it together, but then i saw all the cds i used to listen to in high school and started bawling.
i'm sitting in him for one last time. the only thing left in here to get is my old dog's collar. i don't wanna touch it. if i unclip that collar, it's all real, and red 5 will be gone by the end of the night.
it's so bittersweet seeing a time capsule of your life in your car. congratulations cards from when i got accepted into college, old stickers i never used, eclipse glasses from the 2024 eclipse, pride pins i thought i'd lost, my mask from the pandemic, a million pairs of sunglasses, cds, magnets, memories, memories, memories. i don't think i've ever shared as many memories with anyone else compared to red 5.
i still remember the first song i ever listened to in this car. "i still haven't found what i'm looking for" by u2. i don't know how i remember that, but i'm listening to it one last time before he's gone.
whoever my next car turns out to be, i just hope i can take care of them the way red 5 took care of me.
