I think Nicholeen Peck's perspective on how to parent those with the Obliger Tendency is going to be helpful to myself and Bear

While Gretchen Rubin has the view that a person's tendency doesn't change, I wonder if she would recognise those who exhibit tendencies based on situations and people.

I consider myself a Rebel but I have Obliger Tendencies. I noticed that me wanting to give to Bear (my time) is about being of service to her.

I can't completely say that my Obliger Tendency is not a product of women being socialised as sacrificing. In business, it is valuable to give first because that enables potential collaborators to understand what you're about and what you can offer in general.

There's also our world skewed away from Emotional Maturity which makes humans generally expectant of being served and not necessarily wanting to be of service.

It's complicated. What it's important though is Nicholeen highlighting the importance of recognising an Obliger's contribution. It could be a big recognition based on how much you feel like they helped or just the appreciation of their offer.

When Bear and I talked about gifts, I mentioned my tendency to just accept. This is more letting The Universe know that I am open and would be constantly on the lookout for things that may take me closer to the outcome I'm hoping for.

Bear was adamant in letting me know that it's important to her that I only accept a gift that I only really want. I think it's just she gets really deep joy when she is able to really hit the mark. There's definetely that Perfectionistic Tendency.

One layer I got from Nicholeen's talk was the importance of being gentle when giving feedback to an Obliger. Since I am a Dragon (Enneagran 8), it's a bit challenging for me to reign in my driven side and slow down.

I have noticed how appreciative Bear is when I thank her for things. Maybe I have to remind myself that she just wants to please me. It's just a bit challenging to identify which tendency
