Alex stood in front of his room, he was dirt and stinking of blood from all the interrogations, but he was too used to notice though
It was already past noon when he came back, and he had yet to eat, what made him remember that that man also hadn’t eaten anything, so he told an employee to bring two meals to his room, soup for the man, he didn’t know what he had eaten or when, and soup would go easy in his stomach, at least he guessed so.
He knocked on the door before unlocking it in an attempt not to scare the man, or not scare him too much, the man was already kneeling when he entered, well, he was expecting this much. The man can react like some of his and his sister's prisoners; he was even shivering like a leaf as they do, but somehow that felt wrong, he was not one of their prisoners.
Alex wasn’t in the mood to deal with the man actually, he was hungry and tired, he did gather enough clues to proceed with the investigation, but it would take longer than expected, and he wanted to rest right after eating. Even when he deserves to be exhausted; he knows he deserves to be more exhausted, and he would be, because his sister would also think he deserves it, and overwork him until his collapse was one of her favorite punishments, probably because she doesn’t hurt him directly like she does when their subordinates screw up, but he still needed to deal with him, after all, bring him here as his decision, and he didn't regret it.
“You must be hungry, I told someone to bring us food,” Alex said softly, focusing his remaining energy on looking harmless, which didn't seem to be working, since the man was still staring at the floor, and didn’t respond in any way.
“You are allowed to speak,” Alex tried, trying to remember every away of humiliation he knew so he can try to ‘undo’ them, “Did you sleep well?”
“Y-y-yes m-master, than-thank you f-for y-y-you kindness,” He whispered, even more scared than before, and Alex regreted once again killing his owner the way he did, he should have taken him away from this poor young man's sight, crushed him until he becomes just a shell of himself, and only then killed him.
“That’s good,” He lied, looking at the untouched bed. “Look, I know is hard to believe, and you don’t need to believe in me now, but I have to tell you anyway, I WON’T hurt you, not now, and not in the future, keep that in mind, okay” The man nodded, of course, he didn’t believe, but well, baby steps it is.
“Can you stop kneeling? Sit there, please,” Alex pointed to a chair at the table he usually has his meals, all that kneeling was really bothering him.
The man looked at him, and at the chair, “M-master, I-I… on t-the ch-chair-” He looked on the edge of a breakdown making Alex sigh, the man flinched.
“It is okay,” Alex said, making a mental note to not sign anymore, “you can use the chair, we are going to eat, both of us, so we should sit properly, don’t we?” Alex smiled and tried to sound convincing but failed.
“Ma-master…I-I know I am not a-allowed m-master...” Alex could hear his unregular deep breaths and muffled sobs, he didn’t even need all that training of body language to read that guy.
The man would probably sit on the chair if Alex ordered him to, but ordering the man around was exactly the opposite of what he wanted. Odd, with exception of his sister he can order everyone in the organization around, receive order don’t make no one less human, so when had he decided not to give him orders?
“Okay, you can sit on the floor if you want, but sitting not kneeling, Okay?” Alex said, unconsciously using a commanding voice, due to his habit of being in charge on missions, making the man flinch once again.
“Y-yes, Master,” The man said, sitting near the table.
The man, Alex thought, does he have a name? probably not, but better don’t bother about it this instant, he didn’t even know what to do with him, maybe after proof to his sister that the man was innocent he would send him to someone who can actually help, this place isn’t a good environment to help someone, he isn’t a good person to help someone either.
“Sir Alex, I brought your meal,” Said a female voice after knocking.
She entered after receiving permission and showed a glimpse of surprise for a second when saw the man sitting on the floor with several bandages and bruises and still with his worn-out dirty clothes (since Alex fail to convince him to change into his clothes last night), then she got back to her nonchalant expression, even so probably misunderstanding the whole thing, not that anyone can blame her.
It took another long time trying to convince the man to eat and Alex was getting impatient. Why is it so hard to make him do those simple things? Alex shook his head at those thoughts.
I’m just tired, he said to himself, He is just trying to not be punished, he took a deep breath and tried to not look more scary than necessary in front of the poor man.
After finally convincing the man that he was allowed to eat, they ate silently, the man seemed even more anxious now that he was eating and Alex didn’t have any idea of the why, so he decided what to do; he would send that man to a clinic or something, where he could get real help, with someone who knew what to do, he doesn’t know why he cares so much about him, but since he does, better to make the man recover well.
“I need to leave again, I will be back soon this time, okay?” Alex said as soon as he finished the meal, and the man nodded, not that he had another option but nod.
Alex headed out, he would better go to his sister before being summoned. He walked through the hallways, thinking of what to say to his sister to make her not kill the guy, putting on his serious and decided self.
“Evie, it’s me,” Alex said after knocking on her office door.
“Come in,” She said, with the soft voice she only used with him, and he entered confused, she didn’t use this voice when angry, she received the reports; she should be very angry.
“Got something to tell me that I don’t know yet?” She asked when he sat on the chair, looking at his eyes, something was wrong, he knew it because she was grinning at him, she was scheming something, he figured, but what? At that moment he would rather see her angry.
“I assume you know pretty much everything,” He said finally, losing seriousness and deciding self as always, “Listen, I know I shouldn't have killed him the way I did, and I will take responsibility for that, and solve the problem I caused, but that man is innocent, he doesn’t have nothing to do with this mess.”
“Innocent? Isn’t he the cause of this mess?” She asked, worryingly without a glimpse of anger.
“I am the cause, I did it, he was just... there,” he lied, knowing that she knows it.
“And what will you do to him?” Evie asked, leaning her cheek in the palm of her hand.
“I… I will send him to someplace where he can get help, you don’t need to worry, he won’t be around much longer,” He said, trying to say what she wants to hear.
“Actually I guess he will,” She said with a smirk.
“...I’m sorry?” He asked, with a mix of surprise and anxiety.
“You know what I always say about consequences, you do seem to be doing well enough solving this mess, but consequences are consequences, and this time the consequence is that that man is now your responsibility,” she said pointing at him with her spare hand, “You can do whatever you want to him, except get rid of him or send him away,” She said, no, not said, that was an order.
“...Evie, I do not get it, what do you mean? Why do you want to keep him here?” Alex was afraid of the answer, he knew the man might be a good source of information in her hands, but he wouldn't let this happen, he couldn’t.
She laughed, “I know exactly what you are thinking Alex, is that what you think of me? I’m hurt” She said, not looking hurt at all, “No, like I said he will be your responsibility, the mess is also your responsibility, so I won’t need interrogating no one personally, will I?” she threatened.
“I have my own reasons to make this decision but don’t worry, I have nothing against that man,” She said, making him even more confused, she should have, she should be angry, this whole conversation didn’t make any sense, but well Evie never made any sense.
“...Okay,” Alex said, knowing he would never understand the woman, nor win a discussion against her.
They talked briefly about the “mess” before Alex left the office, and only then did he realize his situation, he now had a person to take care of, a living person, who would starve if he did not feed him, and other things like that, a person with the feeling he would need to understand, and he didn’t have a clue of what to do from now on, he took a deep breath, he somehow knew that it will be hard and tiring, but for some reason, he doesn’t regret it.

Last night Evie was angry, she had left a bothersome and nosy group for her brother to handle, which he usually does very well, but that time he had screwed things up because of some random man, she decided to sleep and deal with it in the morning, she doesn’t like dealing with her brother while hot-headed.
But all changed when he received the reports in the morning, Alex had been interrogating people and trying to solve things up all night long, he had spontaneously decided to solve things up, the same Alex that despite being really efficient doesn’t do more than asked, ever, not in jobs, not in his personal life, just not, but now? because some random poor man, he had acted on his own for the first time, that was unusual, and even if that doesn’t help her “work” in the slightly, that is a good thing; Alex gaining some will is a good thing.
Evie knows Alex is right, that mansion is not a place to heal someone's mind, even Alex was stinking of blood when he came to her office, and either he didn’t care or he didn’t even notice it, but that didn’t matter, that man would be fit to the hole of making Alex less robot-like, and it’s irrelevant if the whole thing is good for the man or not is.
But it will be troublesome having some random guy around, she knows that too, and it will be even more troublesome if she has to control her temper around him, but that is for Alex to worry about, and she was really excited to see what he would do from now on.
“Every child should have a pet,” She said to herself, before going back to work.
