🎁 What gift would utterly destroy them (in a good / bad way)?
Her father's love and acceptance and also an apology? That would pretty well wreck her.
Granted, her father and her do eventually get on better terms. It just takes time and a lot of work. It's one of those really complicated things where she has always wanted his love and acceptance but once he really starts to try she has a hard time accepting it because if he can change then it means her childhood didn't have to be the way it was. And that's hard.
But a more cutesy thing, I think Gale gives her some kind of heirloom piece with Morenna's blessing. It's a pretty big deal for her and part of her feeling truly part of the Dekarios family.
☕ What’s their comfort drink?
She's a big tea drinker and has a particular love of lemon ginger tea. (She inherits this from me.)
🦋 What seemingly insignificant memory do they cherish the most?
Hmm. I think she has vague memories of walking by the sea with her mom and brother. Ashni being carried and her brother holding their mom's hand. It's a very simple thing but also the most peace she had in childhood.
That and I think she and wyll had a very early childhood interaction where they were seated near each other and bored out of their heckin minds and wyll passes her some of the candy he's munchin on. They don't even talk at that point but it's why she trusts him when they meet more officially later on.
🦋 What was their “I’m not a kid anymore” moment?
The unfortunate truth is that Ashni really didn't get to be a kid. Her mom died when she was about 3 or 4 and her life fundamentally changed with that. But I think she does have a moment where she realizes she needs to choose the kind of person she wants to be. I mentioned in another ask that she has this period of "if the world is always cruel then I'll be cruel back" and I think it's after that where she has this "uh oh" kind of moment. She recognizes that she is on a track to turning into someone like her father and her aunt and for as angry as she is she also doesn't get to kick her feet and scream about it, she wants to survive and she wants to be a better person than them.
✏️ What nickname do they secretly love being called?
Gale calls her "my starlight" which always makes her blush. It's more of a private nickname because of that. It takes her a while to get used to, she's just so unfamiliar with her appearance being celebrated--especially when it comes to her eyes.
😭 What always makes them cry, even if they hate admitting it?
Talking about her aunt. She hates it. It's the thing she most avoids. She even struggles to talk about it with Gale. In her mind it's one of those things that just isn't worth talking about. Some things don't need to be dwelt upon or relived. I don't think Gale starts to get a full picture of what that relationship was like until he actually meets her family and her brother who probably tells him a little more. But even he gets antsy about it. I think eventually Gale just holds her about it. Like doesn't press her to say or share anything just gives her space to grieve and have someone acknowledge how awful this person was to her and she has a good scream-cry about it.
