reggie tahan - track star, cheese fry enthusiast, and proud owner of zero brain cells
~
Reggie was usually done with his shenanigans for the day at nine at the latest, which was why, as Miles answered the door at 10:32 at night, he wasn’t sure whether to feel confused or exasperated.
“Before you say anything, I can’t go home.”
It was barely misting outside his door, but Reggie’s clothes were already damp, his shoes glistened as they made squeaking sounds after being dragged through the dew-spotted lawn. Reggie’s tattered jersey was divided neatly in half between a clean side and a dirty side, with small pieces of gravel and grass caught between the tiny rips and tears of the fabric. Reggie’s face bore a similar resemblance, only this time the tears in his face gave way to thin lines of blood on his cheek, almost like a cat had scratched him. His left wrist had bent at an off-putting angle while his right held the thing in place.
“What the hell, Reg?” Miles couldn’t help it. It was the first thing that came to mind.
“I was with the other track and field guys in front of the K-Mart and we–” As Reggie spoke, Miles took him by the bicep and dragged him in through the door, shutting it firmly behind him. “–so then Nathan went way too hard and I fell off the back of his truck and cut up my whole side and then I drove here.”
“You drove here? With that?” Miles indicated towards Reggie’s limp wrist, which he swore was beginning to turn purple. He thought that would get some sort of sorry response from Reggie, but he only laughed.
“Oh yeah, and I hit like four trees along the way. I’m now a proud owner of only one headlight.” Reggie flashed a big smile, which only made Miles roll his eyes. “See what I mean? I can’t go home.”
