A FREE SANTA Rally Begins 6:00pm TODAY (Dec 21) at Travis County Jail (500 W 10th) in Austin Texas!
According to Occupy Austin's Facebook page, Santa was arrested for writing Christmas wishes with sidewalk! Long time Arctic activist and advocate on behalf of world peace Kris Kringle, a.k.a. Santa Claus was arrested by Texas State Troopers today. Claus was chalking Christmas wishes for the world on the sidewalk near the Texas Capitol when Troopers tackled him to the ground in front of children and other holiday merry makers. A helpful elf, Corey, chalked 'Free Santa' and was also arrested. "DPS has overstepped all boundaries today and I will stand and wait for Santa, I hope he's out quick, I hear he still has a lot to do to get ready for Tuesday," said Chris Micheal a witness from Occupy Austin's Occupy Your Capitol working group. Occupy Austin stands in Solidarity with Santa Claus and is organizing a Free Santa Rally to bring jail support. If you want to help you can: -- Join the Free Santa rally at the Travis County Jail (500 W 10th St). Bring blankets, warm drinks, chalk, snacks, signs, Christmas decorations, and your friends! -- Call the Texas State Preservation Board (512-463-5495) and tell them that chalking is constitutionally protected free speech and demand they free Santa now! Many courts have upheld the right for activists to chalk, and state preservation board guidelines specifically state that they do not overrule the constitution! -- Call the Texas State Troopers ( HQ: 512-424-2000 Capitol Patrol: 512-463-3199 ) and tell them that chalk is free speech, not criminal mischief, and demand they free Santa now! -- Remember to be polite in your calls.
We Walmart Elves must unite with all elves and supporters of the first amendment and show solidarity towards this injustice.
#FreeSanta!
Our friends at Occupy Austin took out this message last night: DO MORE THAN VOTE! Someone on their page stated, "Your vote means nothing if you do nothing but vote." We heartily agree... though still, today is about getting people to the polls.
Austin Police Infiltrate Occupy
As Occupy Wall Street prepares to mark its first anniversary, members of Occupy Austin have discovered that their arrests on felony charges after a protest last December are directly linked to equipment provided by a police detective who infiltrated their group. The activists locked arms inside tubes made of PVC pipe that the police had designed, constructed and dropped off for the protest. We’re joined from Austin by Ronnie Garza, one of the members of Occupy Austin facing felony charges stemming from the December protest, and from Houston by Greg Gladden, National Lawyers Guild member and past president of the Texas American Civil Liberties Union

Activists with Occupy Austin revealed Wednesday that an Austin Police Department detective’s entrapment led to the seven arrests on Dec. 12, 2011, during the Gulf Port Action in Houston, Texas. The seven protesters are facing up to two years in state prison, and one activist, Iraq war veteran Eric Marquez , has been in jail since December as a result of the charges.
