It’s been a week...

...since my last performance, and I think that’s enough time to think about being an ageout.  I’m done. Three years of this activity, this ensemble, this family taking over my life every weekend and it’s over now.  I’m sad. Of course I’m sad. I miss my family. I miss my dear friends who truly mean the world to me. But I’m never going to regret it.  One week ago today, I struggled my way up that accursed ramp in the UD arena behind my instrument. Panting and sweating, I made it up the hill with the help of some blessed person and pushed out into the breeze and sunshine and I smiled. I had the best run of my season, and I knew it wasn't going to get better. We loaded the truck, and that was it. My life as a WGI performer had ended, but I didn’t know it yet.  We didn’t make finals, and I really didn’t care. All I knew was that I had the best show I could have ever hoped for, and I was truly satisfied with myself. I had performed with some of my best friends one more time, and we performed our hearts out. This has been the most difficult season of my life personally, and I can hold my head high knowing that I made it.  Thank you, OCIndoor staff.  Thank you, OCIndoor members. Thank you, pageantry. That’s it. Time to grow up.

Some weekends, I truly appreciate the privilege I’ve been granted of being in an ensemble with some of the best people I know. I’m excited to age out with my friends, and I’m preparing myself for the sadness that will come with my last performance. I still don’t really know how I’ll feel...but I know that I’ll be in very good company.
