Faith was numb, not even able to feel the tears and blood smeared across her face. A part of her registered that somebody was trying to get her attention, but all she could think about was all the ways she could have changed this. If only she had paid more notice, fought harder, been a better teacher.“And you’re dead again.” The Slayer chuckled, everything in her expression and stance cocky as she held the wooden bōagainst the younger brunettes neck. “What have I told you about watching your back?”Allison was clearly frustrated, wanting so bad to prove herself to Faith, but so far being unable to beat her. It was obvious to anyone and she decided to cut her come slack. “Come on, break time. I’m about to dehydrate over here.” Dropping her sparring weapon and making her way over to the bags, she threw Allison a bottle of water before cracking hers open and taking a sip. “You’re doing good. Wicked better that I was doing my second spar session.” Offering a smile, she downed half of the water before screwing the lid back on.Allison really had come a long way and the Slayer was proud. She’d never really mentored anybody before, not on such a personal scale and it was damn rewarding seeing how far the teenager had come in such a short time. “Alright, enough slacking off. Let’s get back to it. And remember to watch your back, dammit!”Her fingers were pressed to the fatal wound, a gaping hole that went straight through her. From her back to her chest. Maybe if she could stop the blood she would be okay. Everything would be okay if she could just patch her back up. Right?“Faith... She’s gone.” Derek’s voice was so soft and gentle, his heavy hand resting on her shoulder in comfort but Faith just shrugged him off. “No. No. She’ll be okay. I... I promised I’d protect her. Just gotta... She’ll wake up. Everything will be okay.” Her voice cracked on the last word as it finally hit her. Allison was gone. Despite all the training, all the lengths she’d gone to to protect her. She was gone. And there was nothing Faith could do.Derek could do nothing but watched at the brunette clung to Allison’s body, her slight body wracked with sobs as it hit her just how much she had lost in one night.
