headcanon: mason ft. liam
i think to some extent, mason understands that he is liam’s anchor. he’s well aware that liam will do anything to keep him safe, and when mason is in danger, liam often does something drastic. as i’ve headcanoned with @bittenrage before, things like this have been happening throughout their entire lives. someone hurts mason, he finds himself in a bad situation, etc ---- and liam is always there ready to save him in some way. mason knows that, and he knows that can be risky for liam.
when the ghost riders enter the station, mason knows exactly what’s about to happen. he’s going to be taken. he accepts and understands his fate, but there’s something else he needs to do before he lets it happen. he has to stop liam from getting hurt. he can’t stay back and he can’t protect him, but he knows how liam will react to this. and given that part of him does understand that he is liam’s anchor, it pains him to know that he’s going to be left alone without mason’s help. yes, he believes hayden can help calm him down too, but he knows it’s different. this is why he immediately tells liam to ❛ RUN ❜ instead of stay and fight. he wants him out of there before he or hayden can get hurt ----- but he also knows that liam won’t listen to him because he always puts up a fight.
what liam does after mason is taken is exactly what mason expects. and now he’s left to wonder whether or not liam made it through or if he got himself in a worse situation ---- and it’s going to be the main worry on his mind until he has any sign that liam is okay.
