This is one of my favorite Tumblr posts ever, because it has the perfect combination of someone getting ridiculously bent out of shape about something that doesn't matter at all (no, Dante's work is not being devalued by stupid internet jokes about fanfiction) and also some truly stupid responses.

One post I remember see was someone claiming that Dante invented the Italian language and because Italians didn't have one before. Er, no, he used the already existing Tuscan dialect to write his work in. Standard Italian was later based mostly on the Tuscan dialect because of the esteem in which Italian held Dante and his fellow Tuscans, Petrarch and Boccaccio.

The only difference between this and, say, the development of Spanish, English, or French, is that the standard forms of those languages were instead based on what their respective kings happened to speak (Castellano, the London dialect, and Parisian, if you care).

In any case, I'm vaguely curious about what segretecose thinks about the fact that the cartoon miniseries, Over the Garden Wall, is basically a modern adaptation of Inferno and Purgatorio, but without the farting demons and slights against Dante's political enemies and French royalty.

I mean... come on, there's a guide named Beatrice, the two heroes get lost in a forest, there's demonic beast throughout, and the main protagonist is a confused and depressed guy who wears a red hat and writes poetry? Gee, what does that sound like???

I think when I talk about my kid people are picturing like, an actual small child and not the nearly 5'8 130lb teenager with independence and agency that he is.

I am nearly 40, and have been mentioning my kid off an on in my inane Tumblr rambling since he was born in 2012.
