Is That a New Tie
Matt Murdock x Fem!Reader
(fluffy, chaotic, slow-burn, oblivious Matt, everyone knows except him)
Masterlist
You’d developed something of a reputation at Nelson, Murdock & Page.
Not as a bad paralegal, God no—you were actually damn good at your job. Efficient, organized, a total spreadsheet god. But you had one little, tiny, not-so-secret weak spot.
Matt Murdock.
The Matt Murdock. Blind lawyer, defender of Hell’s Kitchen, closet sarcastic genius, tie-wearer extraordinaire.
You had a huge crush on him. Gargantuan. World-ending. Apocalyptic.
And everyone knew it.
Everyone except Matt.
—
“Is that a new tie?” you asked, not even pretending to be subtle as Matt walked in that morning.
He smiled in your direction, adjusting his glasses. “This one? Nah, you’ve seen it before. Navy with diagonal stripes.”
You gave him a very slow once-over, biting your lip dramatically. “Well, it’s working. Ten outta ten. If I were a judge I’d let you win every case just on the basis of that tie alone.”
Matt chuckled, soft and polite. “Good to know. I’ll wear it to court next week.”
Foggy appeared behind him with coffee and a look that screamed please, for the love of God, notice her.
“Morning, Romeo,” Foggy muttered, handing Matt his drink.
You beamed. “Good morning, Romeo.” You winked.
Matt… laughed. Laughed. Like it was cute.
Foggy dragged a hand down his face.
—
It had become a thing in the office. Your blatant crush, Matt’s sweet obliviousness, and Karen and Foggy silently watching it unfold like the world’s most frustrating rom-com.
You brought Matt coffee “on accident” at least twice a week. You memorized the fabric of every tie he owned. You complimented his hair like it wasn’t always perfect.
You called him “sweetheart” once. He said “thank you.” Like it was a normal thing.
Karen tried to stage an intervention.
“He’s blind, not stupid,” she said, exasperated one afternoon. “You call him handsome like it’s a greeting.”
“Because he is handsome,” you said with a shrug, highlighting deposition notes.
“Right, but normal people notice when someone flirts that hard.”
“I’m not flirting. I’m just… aggressively admiring.”
Karen smacked her forehead on the desk.
—
Later that week, Matt came out of his office as you were loading paper into the printer, and you immediately stood up straight.
“Ohhh, wait a second,” you said, stepping toward him. “That is a new tie. I’ve never seen that one.”
“It’s… not,” he said with a soft laugh. “You’ve commented on this one before.”
You tilted your head, smiling coyly. “Guess I just get distracted by your face.”
Foggy audibly choked behind you. Karen dropped a file.
Matt smiled, like you’d complimented the weather.
“Well, thank you. I appreciate the enthusiasm,” he said, completely unbothered, and walked away sipping his coffee.
You turned, arms flailing. “I literally flirted like a cartoon character. What more do I have to do? Paint ‘I heart Murdock’ on my forehead?”
Foggy leaned against the desk and looked at Karen. “Twenty bucks says it takes another month.”
Karen nodded solemnly. “I’ll say three. He’s hopeless.”
—
You tried everything.
Touching his arm. Laughing at all his jokes (okay, some of them were actually funny). Bringing him snacks. Complimenting his cologne—which was unfairly hot, by the way.
You even left him a sticky note that said, “If I were a tie, I’d wanna wrap myself around you.”
He just chuckled and said, “That’s clever. Where’s that from? A commercial?”
You almost screamed.
—
Then one Friday, it finally happened.
You were staying late, finishing a report. Matt had just come out of his office, sleeves rolled up, glasses off, looking like the goddamn problem he was.
“Working late?” he asked.
“Unfortunately,” you muttered, staring at your screen like it had wronged you.
Matt approached your desk, leaned on the corner. “You know, you don’t have to stay and suffer alone. I could help.”
You blinked. “You… want to help me file exhibits?”
He smiled. “Why not?”
“Because you’re Matt ‘I graduated top of my class at Columbia’ Murdock and I’m… terminally in love with you?” you blurted without thinking.
Silence.
Pure, heart-stopping silence.
Your stomach dropped. You looked up, horrified. “Oh my God. I meant—what I meant was—”
“Wait,” Matt said, holding up a hand. “Back up. You’re what?”
You rubbed your hands over your face. “Okay. I’m in love with you. There. It’s out. Everyone knows except you. Karen knows. Foggy knows. The mailman probably knows.”
Matt was completely still.
“You flirt with me all the time,” he said slowly.
You threw your hands up. “YES, because I LIKE YOU.”
He frowned. “I thought that was just… how you were. Like, flirty. Friendly.”
“Matt. I told you I’d marry you if you asked.”
“You did say that.” He looked genuinely confused. “I thought it was a joke.”
You just stared at him, speechless.
Then he smiled—a slow, warm, mischievous smile.
“Well,” he said softly. “If it wasn’t a joke… should I be asking?”
Your heart stopped.
“I—what?”
Matt stepped closer. “You like me. I like you. And apparently, I’m the last person on Earth to realize that.”
You blinked. “You… like me?”
He laughed. “Of course I do. You’re kind. Smart. You make the office feel lighter. You bring me coffee like it’s an offering to a god.”
You blushed furiously.
“Plus,” he added, “you called me handsome at least forty-seven times. I didn’t want to assume.”
You gawked. “That’s your idea of not assuming?”
Matt leaned in, voice low. “So… if I asked you out right now, would you say yes?”
You gave a helpless little laugh. “Matt, I’d say yes if you asked me to rob a bank with you.”
“That’s… mildly concerning,” he teased. “But I’ll take it.”
He reached out, brushed his fingers against yours. “Dinner tomorrow?”
“Yes,” you whispered.
Karen popped her head around the corner. “FINALLY!”
Foggy cheered from his office.
Matt sighed, laughing. “God, we’re never gonna hear the end of this.”
You grinned. “It’s okay. At least I finally got my blind, hot lawyer to notice me.”
He smiled. “And I finally got someone who appreciates my ties.”
You raised an eyebrow. “Oh baby, I appreciate everything.”
He blushed. Blushed.
Victory.

Poll-Mania
i followed him on instagram last night and he hasn’t followed me yet… maybe he’ll do it later but my overthinking ass makes me think that he hates me
Sooo there's this eye candy at the office lmao but I think he's at least 13 years older than me, very well put, eloquent, great sense of fashion and kind of pathetic I saw him have lunch alone today. He's single in all probability 100% not married. Good motivation to go pull the 9 to 5 everyday that cutie xd
I can fix him and keep him company at lunch
