FFXV fun facts - based on info in FFXV Official Works (English)

Regis is the only major FFXV character not to have a character profile. (He does have one in the FFXV Ultimania, however.)

Ignis joined the Crownsguard after graduating from high school; presumably he's been a member for four or so years.

Noctis "was always raving about" about the dessert he had in Tenebrae, the one Ignis spent years trying to recreate.

Noctis is 3 cm taller than Prompto, while Ignis is 10 cm taller than Prompto (173 cm).

Gladio is the tallest character listed in the book (198 cm), followed by Cor (191 cm). Ardyn is 190 cm tall, according to the Ultimania.

Ravus' height isn't stated in either book :(

Nyx is considered to be the most "awe-inspiring" fighter among the Kingsglaive, hence his nickname "hero".

The book specifically notes that Monica outranks Gladio and Ignis within the Crownsguard.

Chocobo racing is "the national sport of Lucis". (This is mentioned in-game, under "Wiz Chocobo Post" in the archives.)

Leviathan is "worshipped in human, fish, and turtle form".

Some personal notes:

-This is the first I've heard of Iedolas Aldercapt being infected with the Starscourge decades before the game. I haven't been able to find any other sources to support this (whether from in-game loading screens or archive entries, translations of the FFXV Ultimania or JP Official Works, etc.). If anyone has come across such evidence, I'd be happy to hear about it.

-re: Pryna's profile: I wonder if the Japanese word they (this third party translation team) translated as "servant" is the same one that SQEX NA localised as "Messenger"? We know from the lore there are 24 Messengers, so it wouldn't be surprising if certain Messengers act on behalf of - or in service to - specific gods.

-The Oracle's sealing technique actually has a name. In this book they translated it as "the cage of the Oracle", but I wonder what name the EN FFXV localisation team would've given it.

-The thing about Leviathan's different depictions is alluded to in-game - under the "Altissia" archive entry - but it's not as specific as the book.

-The Meldacio Hunters' history is also mentioned in-game (under "Meldacio Hunter HQ" in the archives), but the book says "the military created the Meldacio Hunters and the hunter system" while the game states the Hunters arose from "a band of Insomnian refugees". A little inconsistency that no one would really care about lol.

-The descriptions for Shiva and Ifrit are kinda amusing. You'd think they'd talk about her being all blue or him having big horns, but nah let's go with generic af descriptions :)

-I included the Vyv tidbit because the way they phrased it makes it sound shady haha.

My copy finally is in my hands!! It's so pretty!! Not sure if anyone noticed but on the back of the actual guide there's the silhouette of the chocobros in the center :3

I tried to take a photo of it and did some photo adjustments so you can sort of make it out. 

The guide has the same information as the Original Japanese Official Works mook, but in English. Also this version the artwork is so much larger and the details are even better 8D

I’m not sorry for the watermarks because lets be real people will steal and repost anything they find on the internet and use the excuse that if it’s on the internet it’s free for grabs.

Anywho, perhaps one of these days I’ll photograph my whole FFXV collection XD

FFXV Official Works - French Version with Translations Part.1

Last week was released in France the French version of “FFXV Official Works” published by Mana Books.

I chose to propose here some extracts from it, most exclusively about Ardyn, with for each picture its text in French and its literal translation in English.

Note : Starscourge = Mal de la planète (lit: the Harm/Evil of the planet)

So when in French only the word ”Mal” is used to designate the disease, I also shortened Starscourge to obtain “Scourge” with a capital.

 Ardyn Lucis Caelum

L’homme qui se vit privé du trône royal car atteint par le Mal de la planète. Il voue une rancœur séculaire à la famille royale et à la pierre sacrée, dont il veut se venger en tuant Noctis une fois que celui-ci sera devenu le roi légitime. Ses agissements en qualité de chancelier impérial, comme l’aide apportée à Noctis de loin en loin, tout n’était que manœuvres et préparatifs pour sa vengeance.

Character’s profile

 Ardyn Lucis Caelum

The man who was deprived of the royal throne because affected by the Starscourge. He dedicates a secular rancour to the royal family and the holy stone, from which he wants revenge by killing Noctis once he will became the rightful king. His actions in the quality of the imperial chancellor, such as the help given to Noctis here and there, everything was only manoeuvres and preparations for his revenge.

 Chute de la population à cause d’une maladie parasitaire

Une maladie engendrée par un parasite du nom de plasmodium se répand et fait chuter la population humaine à travers le monde. Un homme issu d’une lignée ayant reçu la force des dieux, et doté du pouvoir unique de soigner la maladie, entreprend de faire reculer le Mal. Malheureusement, son corps est parasité par le plasmodium. A l’origine, cet homme avait été désigné par le cristal divin pour devenir roi, mais du fait de sa contamination, la pierre sacrée le rejette et le trône échoit à son frère cadet.

Celui-ci, afin de protéger le cristal et l’insigne royal qu’est l’anneau des Lucii, fonde le royaume du Lucis. Son but est aussi de transmettre ses pouvoirs de roi légitime, élu du cristal, en prévision du « fléau à venir » dont parlent les dieux. De son côté, alors qu’il est soumis à l’influence de la maladie, son frère aîné chassé du trône survit à son exécution et se découvre immortel. Après une vie dédiée à soigner le Mal, le fait d’être rejeté à la fois par les dieux et le cristal suscite en lui une profonde rancœur. Celle-ci le poussera à accomplir sa vengeance lorsqu’aura sonné l’heure du fléau.

About 2000 years before the game’s events

 Decline of the population because of a parasitic disease

A disease generated by a parasite by the name of plasmodium spreads and drives down the human population around the world. A man from a lineage having received the gods’ strength, and endowed by the unique power to cure the disease, undertook to push back the Scourge. Unfortunately, his body is parasitized by the plasmodium. Originally, this man had been designated by the divine Crystal to become king, but owing to his contamination, the holy stone rejects him and the throne falls to his younger brother.

The last mentioned, in order to protect the Crystal and the royal insignia that is the Ring of Lucii, founds the kingdom of Lucis. His goal is also to pass his powers of rightful king, chosen by the Crystal, in anticipation of the “scourge yet to come” the gods are talking about. For his part, while he’s under the disease’s influence, his older brother driven out of the throne survives to his execution and discovers himself immortal. After a life dedicated to heal the Scourge, the fact of being rejected both by the gods and the Crystal raises in him a deep rancour. This one will push him to fulfill his revenge when the time of the scourge will have come.

L’éveil de Noctis à son pouvoir de roi légitime dissipe les ténèbres

Le prince Noctis rentre enfin parmi les siens, après dix ans d’absence. Il est devenu le roi légitime, le seul capable de balayer les ténèbres qui recouvrent le monde. Avec ses amis d’autrefois, il se rend à la capitale d’Insomnia et fait face à celui qui, durant deux longs millénaires, n’a vécu que pour se venger du cristal et du roi légitime : Ardyn Lucis Caelum. Ce dernier a intrigué dans les coulisses de l’Histoire dans le but ultime de prendre sa revanche, tantôt en manipulant l’empire pour accélérer la survenue du fléau, tantôt en aidant le prince pour hâter son éveil.

Noctis, le roi légitime, et Ardyn, l’usurpateur, s’affrontent dans un duel décisif dont personne ne voit l’issue. Or, sous peu, l’aube se lèvera sur le monde. L’exploit du roi légitime sera conté et transmis aux générations futures durant des millénaires.

Noctis’ awakening to his rightful king’s power dispels the darkness

The prince Noctis finally returns among his people, after ten years of absence. He became the rightful king, the only one capable of wiping out the darkness which covers the world. With his formerly friends, he goes to the capital city of Insomnia and faces the one whom, during two long millennia, only lived to take revenge on the Crystal and the rightful king: Ardyn Lucis Caelum. The last mentioned has intrigued in the background of History with the ultimate goal of taking his revenge, sometimes by manipulating the Empire in order to speed up the occurrence of the scourge, sometimes by helping the prince to hasten his awakening.

Noctis, the rightful king, and Ardyn, the usurper, confront in a decisive duel which no one see the outcome. However, soon, the dawn will rise on the world. The rightful king’s exploit will be told and transmitted to the future generations for millennia.
