Inshore Fishing vs Offshore Fishing in Cabo

If you’re not an experienced angler and trying to decide what type of fishing trip to book on your next vacation down in Cabo San Lucas Mexico, you may get a little confused with terms like inshore and offshore fishing. Inshore Fishing

One of the more common definition and biggest difference between inshore and offshore fishing is the depth of the water – With 30 meters of water being the standard boundary. When you’re fishing inshore, you’ll generally be within a couple of miles of the shore, but depending on your target species, you might also just be a 100 yards off shore casting into the surf as it moves its’ way towards the beach.

Offshore Fishing

Offshore fishing (also known as deep sea fishing), on the other hand is greater that 30 meters of water, and depending on the location you are fishing can require going 20 - 50+ miles offshore.  The advantages that these big open waters have, is that they are able to produce large trophy game fish. If you are looking to experience the thrill of hunting big marlin, dorado (mahi mahi), sailfish, tuna or wahoo, this is the type of trip you want to request.

Is one type of fishing better than the other? It all comes down to preference. In Cabo San Lucas, Big trophy game fish require the bigger offshore waters. Inshore fishing allows individuals choose to be near to land because they are fishing with kids, or the adults don’t quite have their sea legs yet. Inshore is also preferred when weather conditions offshore are not ideal for safety and comfort.
