generally the malfoys losing all their money/getting crazy harsh punishment post-war. i've spoken about this before but i'm too american to believe in this lol, especially with how corrupt the ministry was!

draco and hermione being instant bffs because they're both smart or whatever. those two would clash for a looong time, for various reasons.

actually, hermione being good at relationships/always harry's relationship guru. hermione has had, basically, two relationships in her life, and she's generally bad at interpersonal relationships in canon. she has like two friends! she's an only child! being smart doesn't mean she's good with people! that's something she can grow into as an adult, i'm sure, but not to the level most fics take it just so harry has someone to run his life.

okay, let's be organized about this.

draco: i headcanon draco as chatty, dramatic, def extroverted, super easy for any sort of affection (going from supreme "special little guy" doting from his parents to "oh he's evil actually" in the larger world means he's genuinely shocked when he's not immediately adored). i usually pick brainy/puzzle-y sorts of jobs for him because i think he likes to talk and likes to know more than other people, so he's suited for something where he can be an expert. he's a gemini sun and (in my headcanon, obvs) a pisces moon. i always imagine draco a little unhinged/ridiculous and not really good at hiding his emotions (he always made them very clear in canon iirc, truly never got the ~ice prince thing), even if he does obfuscate with sarcasm and humor a lot.

harry: my harry headcanons are all about him being a bit of a mess after the war. he very much wants to be removed from the center of attention, but he loves being around people and wants to be surrounded by friends as much as possible. it's hard for him to trust freely given affection and it can make him a little uncomfortable, but he also craves it. he finds it nearly impossible to ask for things but he will stand up for himself and set boundaries. my ideal harry job really is professor or teacher or something with kids; he's so good at commanding attention and then using it constructively. he's protective and jealous and possessive when he forms attachments because he's afraid of losing people/still can't quite believe people love him back for keeps. and he's funny and smart in a lot of practical ways, if not as emotionally aware as he could be. and when he is aware of his emotions, he's way better at facing them head-on; it can just take him a bit to figure it out. in my heart he's an aquarius moon, i love that combo with a leo sun for him.

Just me who's totally squealing like a professional third wheel if Draco, canonically very proud of his ability to make people laugh (I think, I only read fics now, it's been abt a year), tells Harry so many jokes, and he gets so giddy excited when he makes Harry laugh.

Thought of this after reading your post about Draco needing to be likable and not pitiable, and yeah, this was always a quality of his that I liked, even through the snotty era. :)

ohhh i love this so much!! yes, absolutely, draco loves making harry laugh; he is ridiculously pleased with himself whenever it happens (and he is completely unable to hide how pleased he is!!!)

Drarry headcanons: social media :~)

honestly it is long past time social media draco is given life outside of our texts.

headcanon context: draco crosses over into the muggle world as like a wealthy eccentric who goes instantly viral across social media and tweets/posts in constant danger of breaking the statute of secrecy. it's all content like: cooking videos where he sets a microwave on fire repeatedly and thinks that's how it's supposed to work, ignoring repeated comments explaining it; becoming entrenched in gay twitter; getting into constant feuds with people like chrissy teigen or piers morgan; vlogging a skincare routine that involves powdered unicorn horn that everyone wants to buy; posting regular thirst traps; becoming a devoted goop follower; etc.

harry is the unfortunate ministry worker assigned to make sure draco doesn't break the statute of secrecy

in effect, harry winds up repeatedly covering draco's tracks as he breaks the statute weekly if not daily. harry also gains control of draco's DMs, blocking people constantly sliding in while draco bemoans the fact that everyone else manages to use the internet to get laid, so why isn't it working for him? harry deletes so, so many dick pics.

he also manages to talk draco out of things like going to space, going to the bottom of the ocean, joining most cults, and so on

obviously they fall in love over the course of this arrangement, and harry features heavily in draco's content, helping further his accidental influencer career mostly by wandering in the background of vlogs and interrupting draco's dramatic rants about the growing scarcity of powdered unicorn horn to call him a git. they vlog their wedding and draco cries not only because it's an emotional day but mostly because gwyneth shows up.

drarry and running errands? like, who wants to go where and how their trips to the grocery store usually end up

ahh i love this, just exactly my favorite kinds of scenarios to think about lol. apologies in advance as i try to keep to five concise things 😂

harry has to Reclaim running errands. the entire concept is one of those unpleasant childhood memories: getting forcibly dragged along by aunt petunia, whisper-scolded in stores, talked about like he wasn't there when petunia met her friends. he had to carry all the bags to and from the car; she forgot him at the bank, the pharmacy, the dry cleaners.

tbh he kind of avoids all of that as much as possible because even as an adult with magic those things are stressful! beyond the memories, there's constant tension in gringotts because of the whole dragon thing; he gets stopped a lot in public, and the last time he tried to buy potions in person, an inventory of his purchases wound up in the prophet.

a lot of this changes when harry's with draco, though, and they reach the stage of the relationship where running errands together is another way of spending time together. first it's good because draco is rather helpless; he has no earthly clue how to buy groceries, for example, and harry feels like something of an expert compared to him, which makes him feel better about it.

draco is good at managing things, though. once he learns even a little bit about something, he kind of takes over. no one hassles harry in gringotts when he's there; no one dares approach harry in public or draco will dress them down; and he is scarily efficient about grocery lists.

harry takes a certain joy in watching draco just utterly conquer a to-do list, in gossiping in lines and making sure harry's included, dragging harry to a store not on their list because he sees something harry needs. now harry carries the bags to keep them from hitting innocent bystanders when draco levitates them around them, but draco makes sure they're all featherlight. and every single errand warrants a treat. draco takes treats very, very seriously and harry argues perfunctorily but not-so-secretly delights in every moment that draco spoils him.

Drarry headcanons: sleeping arrangements??

yessss, love this, thank you! i don't think i've indulged in writing enough of this tbh. the curse of my addiction to getting together fics

starting positions (which never last, i promise you) are: harry as the big spoon aka the backpack (he's shorter), draco as the little spoon. they will both tout these as preferences and genuinely do intend to sleep this way.

however, as i said, this rarely lasts. first of all because draco is a bed hog. he's used to giant, expansive beds (he complained endlessly at hogwarts; they def have a big one as adults) but that preference means sprawling out in the center of the bed and taking up as much room as humanly possible.

harry, for sad reasons we all know, often sleeps curled up in a ball (which is why he likes to start out curled around draco 🥹) and usually winds up using draco as a body pillow in this scenario.

harry gets hot in his sleep, draco gets cold and likes to essentially be swaddled like a mummy, so they do eventually get two duvets for kicking off purposes.

they're both light sleepers, though draco wasn't always one. he's not as good as harry is at falling right back to sleep. he'll lie awake with harry tucked into his side, unable to go anywhere because to get all unbundled would mean dislodging harry. eventually listening to harry's breathing is what helps draco quiet his brain down and finally drift off again. 😴

hi, thank you!! okay i am answering this one on a plane, which feels appropriate haha

1. okay, draco is the planner; he maps out crazily detailed itineraries that harry then has to coax him away from because he likes to be spontaneous (and draco almost winds up loving whatever harry drags him into last minute the most)

2. draco is also just the more experienced traveler, though, and he loves to play tour guide. harry loves tour guide draco for sure, but he also likes to come up with vacation ideas that are new to both of them so they can make brand new memories together.

3. harry idealizes the idea of like a long car trip somewhere (ignoring that he’s not actually the best driver). draco goes along with this plan just long enough to realize he’s 1. terrified of cars and 2. gets carsick

4. their compromise is a long trip by sea, whether on a muggle cruise or some sort of magical ship.

5. they like to mix relaxing vacations with adventurous trips. harry is a beach guy for sure, while draco would rather go to like a remote spa in the mountains but he also likes how harry looks in his bathing suit so. he’ll make sacrifices.

i'll do either/or headcanons for this one: draco is a world class comforter tbh. he has about a thousand different known ways to pamper harry, dote on harry, take care of harry from a childhood of being well taken care of. he's simply great at it.

over the course of the drarry experience, draco learns how to a. wait harry out (when it's emotional hurt/comfort and harry hasn't quite processed the fact that he even needs it yet) or b. bulldoze past harry's denial (when it's physical hurt/comfort; "i'm fine/i've had worse!" "hmmm, that's horrifying, shut up and let me heal you!")

flipping it, draco might obfuscate when it comes to needing emotional h/c, just because the vulnerability makes him really uncomfortable. harry knows that draco really trusts him when he's allowed to see draco cry without him getting mad or nasty about it.

however, when it comes to physical h/c, draco is fully the opposite of harry; "i'm fine!" isn't really in his vocabulary. every physical ailment is the worst he's ever had, a tragedy, and an emergency. zero pain tolerance, and he soaks up comfort like a sponge; harry finds it surprisingly easy to care for him just because most base-level attention and caregiving makes draco feel better.

the war makes them both afraid of losing each other, and their past makes them afraid of hurting each other too badly. it drives them both crazy when they get to a point in the relationship where, even if they have a horrible fight, even if they seriously upset one another, the other is still the one they most want around when they want comfort. 💕
