APB, CALLING ALL OFMD GIRLIES!
See this robe? Do you live in/around New Jersey, specifically south Jersey, near Manahawkin/LBI? Do you want to help a fellow OFMD fan out?
Here’s the story: I bought my grandma an EXACT replica of this robe for Christmas this past year.
My grandma never saw OFMD, but she was declining in health to the point that some days she couldnt change out of her PJs; she hated feeling “unkempt”, so I wanted to gift her something that she’d feel pretty in, even on days she didn’t have the energy to put on real clothes.
When I found the replica of this robe, I knew it had to be hers. It is GORGEOUS, lovely velvet, heavy material, was supremely comfortable.
This robe delivered in spades in making my grandma feel good about herself, all the way until her final day. She sadly passed away a few weeks ago.
After mourning her, my aunt (her caretaker) asked if I wanted a sentimental keepsake from her home. I immediately remembered the robe and asked if I could have it, as it brought my grandma so much joy, and it would be nice to wear it and think of her.
Unfortunately, all of my grandmas clothes had already been donated… including this robe.
I don’t know where for sure the robe was donated to, BUT realistically, it’s at the Good Will in Manahawkin, NJ.
I live out of state, and sadly won’t be back any time soon…but if anyone who lives in the area happens to stumble across it and return it to me, I would be FOREVER grateful!
THANK YOU!
A while ago I ordered some of the bird velvet for the pirate dressing gown, but I got the purple version because I liked it better than the pink. It was this colour in the photos on the website:
And this colour when it arrived in the mail:
Hrm. Ick. NOT what I wanted, and it doesn't go at all with the black cotton sateen I got for the lining.
Thankfully my mother is a textiles teacher, so I have easy access to a lot of dyes, and I did some dye samples.
The first 3 I did were bad, but the 3 after that were great!
The Mixing Red was bright and pinkish, and the Scarlet and Turkey Red were nearly indistinguishable, but both were a bit of a duller red. They made the background a much better colour, and made the print less harsh, while still keeping it clearly visible. In the end I went with Scarlet at 2% and Mixing Red at 1%. (These are all PRO MX Fibre Reactive dyes.)
Much better!
I've cut out my robe pieces, but am not in any particular hurry to sew it up, since it's currently the hottest part of the year.
This fictional character, he’s having a hard time?
I decided to make a lil OFMD nook in my apt 🥹
always looking for more fanart, so drop a link if you wanna share any of your art (or your friends!!) 💖

My partner is extra af and bought The Robe. I've been professionally moping in it ever since. It's incredibly cathartic. Like, just putting it on gives you permission to fully experience your inner misery. When it stops raining I intend to go and stand by the sea in it and cry. In a healing way.
So, a while back I bought one yard of the OFMD velvet, with the intention of making myself either a corset, stays, or waistcoat of it. And then I decided I really want a reproduction of the banyan/dressing gown from the show. But I couldn't justify the cost of the full velvet yardage. So I ordered 5 yds of the woven cotton in the same print, for about the same cost of one yard of velvet. So let's compare.
The cotton (they're both cotton but I mean non velvet) is much brighter, more hot pink than peachy pink. It's the same print and probably same colors but it takes better on the woven and just generally is a lot more vibrant.
I intend to pre-wash this on hot so we'll see if there's any bleed or fading. If so I want it to happen before I sew it.
The fabric itself is nice, thinner and with more drape than typical quilting cotton, more shirting weight. It's nice and soft, almost sateen on the right side. It should be very comfortable as light layer.
More as I progress with this project.
