Whenever Garrus found himself bored, lonely, or going cross-eyed from endless calibrations in the late night hours, he would make his way up to the bridge. Most of the ship’s crew was snoozing away the evening in their bunks, and the few that remained were on autopilot and barely acknowledged the turian as he stepped out of the elevator and approached the galaxy map interface, making him feel as though was more or less alone. And though he never planned on admitting it to anyone, he found some semblance of comfort in the projected stars that twinkled before him, a kind of familiarity that he couldn’t find elsewhere.
This could have been due to the fact that stars were one of the few constants in his life. Even though he would observe different celestial bodies throughout the galaxy, they were all space. When he viewed these blinking orbs, he was able to recall happier times, war-free nights, and above all, he remembered what it felt like to be home.
The dull thud of boots against metal behind him drew him back into reality, his head turning as he tried to see who had approached him out of the corner of his eye. “Shepard,” he acknowledged, nodding politely before returning his gaze to the galaxy map. “You’ve discovered my secret hiding place, obviously. Too bad there’s not a prize for this, huh?”
