now having got to see them in action, tumblr communities are essentially lj communities. time is a flat circle baby.

I've noticed that a lot of readers only read fic from select authors & only promote those authors. I participated in a fic exchange & only 1 fic had a bunch of kudos & comments & notes on tumblr while the rest of the fics only had a couple or none at all. Its because friends of the author promoted the fic even before the author was revealed. I see a lot of author loyalty VS appreciating the substance of a fic or the quality of the fic. A lot of the in-depth discussion of fics that I see take place on the tumblr pages of authors but not in the comment section of ao3. In the 1D fandom at least there's a handful of authors that get attention & questions/comments about their fics while most fics get ignored. I read most of the old fics on lj and there was always discussion on there but once some of them were posted on ao3 people just read them to say they have but dont engage in any discussion about them.
this: I see a lot of author loyalty VS appreciating the substance of a fic or the quality of the fic. is very very true. and the friends promoting the fics before they were revealed 100%. i’ve seen this first hand a lot and i honestly don’t get it? i personally only want people to reblog/promote my fic if they like it. that’s it. i don’t want anyone to feel obligated to promote it or read it. i know people have specific things they like and specific things they won’t read. i’ve also seen a lot of “reccer’s loyalty” if that makes sense, where people will only read things if someone specific has recommended it.
i definitely agree about the discussion too! i’ve had a lot of discussions about fics on LJ-- lol, i even responded to a lot of criticism on there it was a wild ride.
I still can’t go to Subway without thinking ‘I understand the math of the cheese’ and then having to try really hard not to giggle.
So many shitty personality quizzes. Glad to see not much has changed in that regard.
Sometimes it hits me that I used to read fandomsecrets literally every night. I do not understand myself at all.
So LJ brought back subject lines in comments...
With the changes recently I'm feeling like there's been some changes over there and they really want people to come back from Tumblr, etc.
Tired of that daily email of stuff that you saw ages ago?
Go to Settings -> Email -> uncheck 'Keep Me Updated With New Stuff From Tumblr'. Voila!
And thank you to the person who mentioned this on Livejournal :D
