It probably won't be George Santos. Like Donald Trump, he's ineligible because of criminal charges against him. Rep. Santos now faces 23 counts. He needs to work harder to catch up to Trump.

Before going to work at the Trump White House, Cassidy Hutchinson held several positions at the Capitol. She became the star witness at the House January 6th Committee hearings in 2022.

Gym Jordan and Steve Scalise are running for Speaker of the House. While there isn't a lot of ideological space between them, Jordan is essentially an unindicted co-conspirator regarding the attack on the Capitol by pro-Trump terrorists. In fact, GOP former Speaker John Boehner referred to Jordan as a "legislative terrorist". He's basically Matt Gaetz on decaf – and without a jacket.

Having Jordan as House Speaker would be the Capitol Hill equivalent of Trump in the White House.

As if the US House of Representatives were not experiencing enough chaos and dysfunction, Donald Trump will be visiting Capitol Hill next week. It will be his first visit since he encouraged MAGA terrorists to rampage through the Capitol on 06 January 2021.

He also stated that he would be "open" to becoming House Speaker. The holder of that position doesn't necessarily have to be a House member, but both parties have policies which prevent indicted individuals from being part of the Congressional leadership. Trump faces four indictments featuring 91 counts against him.

Public pressure on Jordan supporters in the House seems to be having an effect.

In the second House Speaker election this week, support for extremist coup-plotter Gym Jordan has slipped.

Jordan’s speakership campaign on its last legs

After halting voting for nearly a day in hopes of securing more Republican votes, Jordan instead lost two more votes on the second ballot. The House then went into another recess, at Jordan's request, before a possible third vote. The GOP is expected to hold a conference meeting Wednesday afternoon as it keeps searching for a way out of its speaker mess. Jordan's total number of Republican opponents reached 22 on the second round of voting. With the list of defectors growing, even after a significant delay, his chances at the gavel are looking virtually nonexistent.

Jordan can afford to lose just 4 Republicans. He lost 20 on the first ballot and 22 on Wednesday's ballot.

The NY TImes reports on grassroots pressure in Iowa.

Christina Bohannan, a Democrat challenging Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks in a competitive Iowa district, said her opponent’s vote for Mr. Jordan on Tuesday “shows her true values and how contrary they are to Iowa values.” She said that more than 60 percent of Iowans reject Mr. Jordan’s position in support of a nationwide abortion ban, and noted that he has never voted for a farm bill, one of the most critical issues for the state. “This is a real slap in the face to Iowa women for Miller-Meeks to support him,” Ms. Bohannan said. “I can’t imagine a clearer example of how Representative Miller-Meeks is selling out Iowans to the extreme members of her party rather than take a more bipartisan position.” Ms. Miller-Meeks on Wednesday switched her vote, backing off her support for Mr. Jordan and voting for Representative Kay Granger of Texas, instead. But the damage had already been done.

Republicans have lost the ability to govern. They are too busy conducting culture wars, spreading conspiracy theories, and praising whatever comes out of the mouth of Donald Trump. Gym Jordan is the poster boy for GOP dysfunction.

There may be another ballot on Thursday.

Eric Swalwell Slams Jim Jordan With Killer Troll During Garland Hearing

Representative Eric Swalwell called out Jim Jordan on Wednesday for continuing to evade a subpoena to testify before the House January 6 investigative committee. The House Judiciary Committee, which Jordan chairs, held a hearing on the supposed weaponization of the federal government. At one point, Representative Thomas Massie accused Attorney General Merrick Garland of being in contempt of Congress for declining to comment on ongoing investigations into Hunter Biden. Swalwell was quick to hit back. “That is quite rich, because the guy who’s leaving the hearing room right now, Mr. Jordan, is about 500 days into evading his subpoena,” Swalwell said, displaying a countdown clock on a tablet as he spoke. Jordan had gotten up and was walking out of the room. “If we’re going to talk about contempt of Congress, let’s get real,” Swalwell continued. “Are you serious that Jim Jordan, a witness to one of the greatest crimes ever committed in America, a crime where more prosecutions have occurred than any crime committed in America, refuses to help his country, and we’re going to get lectured about subpoena compliance and contempt of Congress?” The January 6 investigative committee subpoenaed Jordan in December 2021 to discuss messages he sent to Donald Trump ahead of the insurrection. Jordan had also sent messages to Trump’s legal team and other people involved in planning the January 6 rally or objecting to the certification of Joe Biden’s presidential victory. Despite insisting in November that year he had “nothing to hide,” Jordan refused to cooperate with the subpoena.

The Republican conference on Friday voted to no longer back House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) as its Speaker nominee. The secret ballot vote came hours after Jordan’s third failed ballot on the House floor. He had lost GOP support with each successive vote. Friday marks the latest drama in the more than two-week saga since eight House Republicans joined with Democrats to oust former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Oct. 3. Jordan was the GOP’s second shot at Speaker replacement. It had first narrowly nominated House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) for the post, but resistance to his candidacy — mostly from Jordan supporters — forced him to withdraw a day later.

Scalise said after the Jordan vote on Friday he would not mount another bid for Speaker.

Don't expect a Speaker until Tuesday at the very earliest. Republicans only hurry when they're trying to regulate women's bodies, suppress voter turnout, or persecute the LGBTQ+ community.

If you hear anybody shooting off their mouth and spewing bothsiderism about the House fiasco, remind them that House Democrats have offered to work with those Republicans who are more interested in governing than conducting a freak show on Capitol Hill. So far there have been no takers.
