I’ve been sitting here thinking I was so ahead of the game in recognizing my own feelings and his mixed signals and it only just occurred to me that there might’ve been a little more behind the sex conversation and the joking “if-we-got-married-our-kids-could-go-to-school-here” comment than I’d thought at either time.

I think my memory’s been suppressing those memories in order to protect me from feeling more like a clueless dumbass than I already do.

It’s still happening, brain. It’s still happening. And it took a perpetually jealous co-worker’s hissy fit about something else involving our mutual male colleagues for those memories to connect.
