Zander:
Zander had such a great relationship with his parents. They divorced when he was younger (a simple case of his mom realizing/accepting her sexuality a little later in life, no bad feelings between either of his parents) but he spent a lot of time with both of them growing up. His parents were always incredibly loving and supportive of him and he misses them so, so much.
His mom had a fiance, they were just engaged before he went missing. She’s genuinely a great lady, his mom was with her for years before their engagement and she loved Zander so much. He’s very, very upset that he wasn’t there for their wedding.
Zander was an only child but he had several cousins around his age and younger. He was always the relative that his younger cousins thought was really cool and they’d crowd around him at family gatherings, which he handled relatively well, he was great with kids.
He was definitely that person whose family was large and overly enthusiastic at important events (his high school graduation was. something). He would jokingly complain about this but he genuinely loved how supportive and wonderful his family was.
He’s lucky enough to have several photos of his family that Cain was nice enough to get for him. He only looks at them every once in a while though because he doesn’t particularly like the feeling of loneliness he gets from not being with them.
Cain:
He doesn’t. Have great feelings towards either of his parents. His father was an absolute monster, he hates him so much, and his mother,,,, he knows that she’s dead. He knows that she didn’t really abandon him but he believed it for so long that those feelings of abandonment are still there.
He doesn’t have a very big extended family, and those he did know he’s very isolated from. He doesn’t know most of his mother’s side of the family, and everybody on his father’s side of the family is or was a terrible person. Even if they weren’t terrible to him specifically, he hates them and only interacts with them when necessary.
When he was a kid he really, really wished he had siblings, but these days he considers it lucky that he is an only child. He doesn’t want to know what potential damage his father could’ve caused another child
He doesn’t ever see himself having a family of his own for a variety of reasons.
He knows quite a bit about Zander’s family from some conversations they had early on in their relationship. He never told him, and he wouldn’t tell him, but he is incredibly jealous of him.
